By Hey Negrita
It is a genuine mystery why some bands release singles, particularly when clearly they are so far from the sort of music that the single buying bracket of the public would actually listen too. It's perhaps more puzzling what the record companies were thinking rather than the bands themselves. Hey Negrita are country, blues, Americana in the style that would really rile any fans of country, blues and Americana. The 2 songs here are little too polished, a little too pop, a little too jaunty and despite being written by a reformed drug addict a little too clean. It's one step down the road from The Mavericks and so all the cool biog quotes of Tom Waits, Johnny Cash and Lou Reed could be a bit far fetched. Still when was the last time you went to a wedding and didn't hear The Mavericks? If life teaches us anything it's that one man's hell is another man's success.
