The Fever

Live at Joseph's Well on Wednesday, 20th July 2005

First of all, I have to report that The Young Professionals are not playing tonight, because the singer has been on a sesh since last Thursday, so just 6 days. Blimey.

About 3 songs into O Fracas' set, the formula 4s + x squared * sq root y cubed/z to the power 5 pops into my mind, perhaps to explain the complexity of the rhythms employed by these young scamps. You scientists will understand what I'm talking about, but let's sort it out for the rest of you out there. This band has 4 great musicians, there is no doubt about that, but I think there needs to be more of the sinister beginnings of their set closer - darkness prevails, points the way forward and then halfway through drops back to the jazzy, jerky formula. The songs are ace in general, but more tunes needed, but not per song.

At this stage, we watch Scanners, who recently supported the Wedding Present. Their Pixies-ish pop is smart enough and at this stage, in a fit of lazy journalism, I pass you over to Callum Fox from Doncaster for his thoughts "very upbeat, makes you wanna move with the beat. Definitely liked the combination of sounds. Sounded tight and well rehearsed. All in all very good." Thanks Callum.

By the time The Fever take the stage, the Kronenbourg count is accelerating and I vaguely remember thinking it's Hot Hot Heat/The Bravery/The Strokes all shook up. The most important factor though is the drummer - he can drum, oh yes, can the lad, but more importantly his beard is resplendent. My friend Callum had more words to say about this band, but reading back there's nowt extra to say.

Why doesn't 'Callum' (if he does indeed exist) just write the review since you were apparently halfcut?
