Can Of Worms

By 3dBs Down

Dear god, who on earth thought it would be a good idea to let these four guys loose inside a recording studio? If there's one thing in the world of music that deserves the term "pathetic" to be thrown at it like excrement off a hot shovel, it's a group of individuals from deepest darkest Kent pretending to be SoCal pop-punks.

Say "erm, hello" then, if you will, to 3dBs Down, Gravesend's answer to Good Charlotte. And yes, that verily is every bit as horrifying as it sounds. Nasal "IwannabeAmerican" vocals which make you want to punch the singer's lights out? Check. Chucking in a couple of second-hand ska riffs in the belief that it's going to make them sound like Less Than Jake but actually ends up sounding more like a brain dead version of early noughties never-rans Spunge? Check. A general air of complete and total musical ineptitude about the whole sorry affair? Check.

I could go on for hours about how utterly meritless and abysmal this album is but for the sake of my own sanity, I won't bother. I'll just leave it at the fact that if you thought that Busted were gods in the ascendant then this might just be for you. Otherwise, unless the British record buying public suddenly develops a taste for DIY lobotomies and Prozac, this is very much the sound of a band thankfully heading straight for instant obscurity with an anvil round their necks.

When you said "if the British public suddenly devlops..." had you not realised that was pretty much already the case, why else would bands such as Busted be so big? Funny review though, check!

Terrible review, calling them muppets... very professional

Also, to get a 0.5 / 5 the band would literally have to be unable to play their instruments, which they clearly can do.

Strange how every other review of this album is so positive, (K! 4/5, Big Cheese 4/5, Ptastic.com 4/5, Screamager Zine 4/5, Punkermentality 9/10, DowninSound 10/10, Rock Sound 6/10 - etc etc) - but then the reviewer likes stuff like towers of london so seems like a bit of a silly album to review for him really

Yes T, I do like Towers of London. And, assuming you've been reading through my past reviews you'll also note that I like Gold Blade, the Dead Pets, Mika Bomb, the Playmates and Guns on the Roof. All of whom would be classified as punk, albeit punk that has a) a bit of proper attitude behind it and b) tunes you'll remember after more than one listen which is something you definitely couldn't say about the band in this article imho. If you're gonna try and do a character assassination on someone, at least do your research properly, eh son?

like you did on the band? "morons" are they? Know them do you? Oh wait, no you don't. As proved by every other review of their album, the music is good, the musicianship is of a high level and it certainly deserves more than 0.5/5 - as far as I can tell, you were being a bit of a moron yourself and taking pleasure out of slagging off a small band and label trying their hardest to get something done. Congratulations, try and ruin the little man. Punk doesn't need to have "attitude" anymore, get with the times. PS - they're nothing like those bands you mention.

Don't think we're gonna agree on this one, are we? For the record though, I'll just say this - as a reviewer it makes no difference to me whether a band's on a small or big label or whether they're playing big or small venues, I'll judge them on the music I hear them playing, otherwise it wouldn't really be a proper review would it? Believe it or not, I actually asked to review this album on the back of reading good things about the band - unfortunately I was disappointed. As the old saying goes, you can't please all the people all the time. Let's just agree to disagree here and let this one lie.

I can accept you didn't like the music. But to me it seems you went to stupid lengths to put them down. 0.5 / 5? That's just silly, they can play their instruments, hold a tune and sing, so that counts for at least 1. Giving them 0.5 is basically saying they can't do anything.

And the personal insults were uncalled for and out of order, they've now been edited out by Dave.

I love how this reviewer attempts to sound even remotely intellectual and just fails epically.
