By Ben Kweller
Ben Kweller used to be the frontman of mid-nineties US grunge-pop act Radish, a band he formed when he was just 12 years old. Texan at heart, though now relocated to Brooklyn, he is still a mere 20 and has continued a blossoming, critically acclaimed solo career. Ben delivers sing along happy-go-pop tunes based around guitar and piano parts, and there is a distinct Pavements and Ben Folds Five vibe. At times the Pixies make an entrance, whilst the alternative guitar-pop ramblings of Mama Scuba are a suitable local comparison to some of his more off-kilter moments. There is a welcoming mix of acoustic and electric guitars and whilst none of this will last the test of time, it is perfectly placed to be a welcome summertime addition to any record collection.
