Vatican Jet / The Smokestacks - split single

By Various Artists

Ah double A-sides, something for all the family! Actually there's not much to choose from between these two sparkling specimens. Vatican Jet certainly have the edge regards testing the formula with a charming Bolshevik come Turkish pop song and like all good ones it takes a little while to reveal its full charms, such as the great line "Something fishy in my bedding, your red herrings do my head in". Kaiser Chiefs would love to be allowed to be this creative! Just listen to yourself joining in with the wo ho ho ho ho's whilst hopping around your bedroom in a Cossack style. The Smokestacks go for something slightly more frenetic with the excitable "We can drink our way through this", it's good, straight and harmless. There's less of the imagination of its stable mate but its energy alone lets it eat at the same table. Only minor gripe is the closing line of "I see you drowning in the Devil's piss" which is just frankly piss poor and not the cherry on the icing we were hoping for. But don't be swayed, this is well worth seeking out as both show much promise and eBay will be around for years if you want to sell it to a collector.
