By The Casanovas
The Casanovas are an antipodean rock band, which should tell you something. Picture the big riffs (think ZZ Top), swagger vocals (Mick Jagger) and 80's rock drums. Lead song Nasty is a love song in the ilk of Big Bottoms and features dangerous opening lyrics about what the singer is not in to, like gays and smack. This song is unfortunately a bit too long, and goes way past the 2min mark, but is almost redeemed by a great middle section. Not quite.
Too Cool is a bit more of the headfast rock n roll spirit sounding like every The D4 single released so far. Very good! The sub-Busted "too cool for school" chorus is suitably stupid, as is the brilliant guitar wankery littered all over this track, especially the tapping in the chorus. Oh, and it sounds like they've let Jools Holland and his piano loose on it. Fantastic really, ain't it. This track is too fast and stupid for you to dislike really.
The Casanovas like so many bands like this at the minute, instead of spearheading a new punk movement ala '77, are sounding like so many overblown rock bands of the early 70's and 80's. They do it in refreshing style though.
