By Ed Harcourt
Pumping organ, with squeaks of the pumps and all, start this first single from new album 'From Every Sphere' and continue to be the main force, pushing the song along. The production is quite rough (or is intended to sound so), which all adds to the ambience of the song. Harcourt's vocal melody gradually builds to the chorus and it's rich "ooooh oooooooh" backing and staccato rhythm that nicely breaks up the flowing organ of the verses. The texture builds as the song goes on with guitar getting in on the act towards the finale to show organ who's in charge here.
It's nice enough without ever really grabbing you by the scruff of the neck, more the sort of song you'll enjoy sitting on the hills and listening to from afar at this summer's selection of festivals.
