By The Flaming Lips
This is genius. What a random concept for a song, and this is totally fictional. With great lyrics such as "she's gotta be strong to defeat them, so she's taken lots of vitamins" coupled with the fantastic noises coming from... what are they coming from? Acoustic guitar strums on politely, with the ever catchy chorus taking up residence in my brain. The story tells of a (presumably) Japanese black belt in Karate who works for the city and has to defeat the evil pink robots. Superb.
The b-sides to this single are an AOL Live session of the title song, emotional and chilled piano and vocals are strangely found on this brilliantly silly song. This gives a great interpretation to such a technology-demanding song, and shows the song is a great pop song in it's own right.
Speaking of Pop... The second track on this CD happens to be the most fantastic version of Kylie's 'Can't get you out of my head'. And the Flaming lips make it sound like the best song ever written. Tension building strings, piano and acoustic guitar and a mild undertone of irony. It's all that's needed to provide us with a single that is over too soon.
