Tindersticks: Don't even go there EP

4.5
Get warmed up for this Summer's album release and tour with four new songs from an effortlessly mature Tindersticks. Ten years and half a dozen albums down the line, you're either washed up or you're cruising into a golden era.

Tindersticks do golden era.

"I Want You" at track 4 is an understated time bomb tune whose erotic yearning fully qualifies for the shamefully abused word "adult". The soulful groove and the gently addictive instrumental lines provide a pefect setting for Stuart Staples' truly fine voice. "Trying to Find a Home", and "Everything Changes" are in similar intense but laid back style, with strings and brass section as needed and a vocal/guitar heart. A very big heart too. You can hear just where the younger cadres of the Reindeer Section got great chunks of their melodic and harmonic inspiration.

An instrumental "Sexual Funk" sneaks in a wonderful Hammond-like riff against a sinuous rhythm section that would, with the repeat button on for most of the afternoon, provide a perfect mood for advanced cuddling sessions.
