By Michelle Branch
Back with a new album, "Hotel Paper", this is the first single to be taken from it. With a sterling backing band including Kenny Aronoff, Dave Navarro and Jamie Muhoberac it's a tight, punchy slice of pop rock. Opening with a moody keyboard intro and building to a crescendo of a chorus the song gives Branch plenty of room to flex her vocal muscles. She does come off a bit Morrisette esque at times in some of the more wailing parts of the song but she does possess a fine voice and the vocal melody manages to veer from a safe path often enough to keep things interesting. Those who in vested in Branch's debut "The Spirit Room" will be impressed I'm sure but I don't know if this will convert any new fans although it may at least bring Branch a little more attention.
