Wrath Supersevens #10

By Various Artists

Three songs on a 7" you say? Yes indeedy and this time it's the turn of Sheffield to foot the bill or more to the point fit the bill. It's a tale of two sides contrasting the chamber pop of Champion Kickboxer with the raucous racket of The Interiors and Chuck. Champion Kickboxer's medieval pop and woe will not be to the taste of many. It's an ambitious play on traditional themes but for this reviewer falls short of getting the formula just right. It's more unsettling than haunting which perhaps fits perfectly with Wrath's ethos. The show is well and truly livened up by The Interiors as they rip your speakers open and launch themselves towards you with the garage smash 'n' grab "She's In Japan". "She lives in an earthquake zone!" they holler, why and for what reason? Only a cynic would suspect it's because "Understand" rhymes with "Japan" but if it sounds good then do it. Finally and perhaps just sneaking the gold medal is the Starship Troopers inspired "Kill 'Em All" which is delivered impeccably at 1000Mph by Sheffield stalwarts Chuck. With the immortal line "I saw my buddy get messed up, they sucked his brains out 15 times" this is surf guitar punk of the finest order. Ending on the question "Want to know more?" you will be kneeling in front of you stereo crying "Yes please tell me anything!".

I agree with these reviews but is it not a bit iffy to have a member of the instant species (who are on the Wrath Super 7s) actually reviewing them?

Not really, the release or its bands are in no way associated to the reviewer.

If I review the release with me on it then I will have a case to answer. As for these reviews I can say I have been as honest in offering my opinion as always - which can be uncomfortable when you know the people in charge of them, if you are giving any negative feedback. Anyway glad you agree Si.
