By Fury of the Headteachers
Packed with snotty energy this debut release from Sheffield's Fury of the Headteachers adds yet another name to the list of "ones to watch from Yorkshire". Both songs are whipped out at such a furious pace that there are moments where it feels as if the band may lose it like a spinning plate, collapsing in a big pile of high-hat and pip-pip guitar. It must be a comforting thought to know that before it even hits the shops this limited 7" single has already sold out and having shared the bill with similar exponents of the shout-angular-shout-chop method as ˇForward, Russia! it seems to have every ingredient for flavour of the month. The hi-hat union is once again preparing to strike after receiving another disproportionate whacking through out both tracks and Chris Bridget Jones-Diary has a sort of northern Rakes meets Stellastar* style to his vocal chants. However despite all the key ingredients being present neither of these tracks quite falls in to the world beater category and a tighter balance between the angular and the melodic would lodge them a little firmer in the memory. Fables maybe edges but it's not saying much in a two-horse race.
