Quite simply: wow! The Automatic are one of the rare 'new' bands if you will that seem to me to go from strength to strength after each single; yet seemingly unnoticed. Has anyone seriously taken stock of the fucking astounding pace The Automatic are moving at?

My first Automatic love was 'Raoul' as regular readers will know all too well but 'Monster' refreshingly showcases so much more of this unprecedented Welsh outfit. Everything about the track has 'SUCCESS!' written all over it: the musical arrangements are of a slightly greater complexity yet still retaining the essential je ne sais quoi signature sound of the group; the vocals still multi-layered as Pennie and Frost continue to build a magnificent relationship as singers unfailingly backed by the chorus without which The Automatic just wouldn't be.

Yes: the killer chorus. No bad thing, however [so management don't sue me] as the chorus is a long forgotten aspect of song writing for many artists who prefer to concentrate on the arcane concepts that only they end up appreciating. Not The Automatic though who know, understand and most importantly practice this sacred art. Well fucking done fellas.

However, le cri du cur arrives of course just after three minutes of wonderful Welshness when the band abandon instruments and effects for a few seconds of the rousing 'What's that coming over the hill? / Is it a monster? / Is it a monster?'. And I thought only The Flaming Lips had that one nailed.

On attempting to describe The Automatic, I struggle to conjure up a superlative so spectacular that one could at least grasp the essence of the bubbling pot of gold we have here. I can't. Just go listen. Go see. Now.
