By Taking Back Sunday
The nearly men of emo return after a two year absence with 'Make Damm Sure' to a considerably more densely populated market than when they first hit the scene with their celebrated debut album in 2002. Taking Back Sunday were definitely in amongst the frontrunners when it came to melodic hardcore or however you wish to classify it back then but right now it's not exactly cutting edge. And TBS aren't intending to change the formulae just yet. It still maintains all the credentials that made their earlier material so good. A vitriolic, vengeful edge tagged on to a poppy hardcore number, but ripped through with jagged juxtaposing lead guitar riffs and a chorus that could set the mainstream alight but just doesn't want to.
Taking Back Sunday were one of the first provocateurs of this hookful hardcore and on evidence of 'Make Damm Sure', it looks like they'll carry on until they're one of the last as well.
