The Topman Unsigned Stage line up is announced for Leeds Festival 2006

Although the Futuresound 2006 competition is still to come to a close -with six winners expected to be announced shortly- the line up for the Unsigned Stage at this year's Leeds Festival is already taking shape... and once again the quality of bands set to appear in front of around 70,000 music fans across the weekend is high!

In conjunction with festival organisers Mean Fiddler, stage sponsors Topman, BBC Raw Talent and Sandman music magazine today revealed their selection of bands, all of which were chosen from literally hundreds and hundreds of hopeful entrants from around the North of England.

The headliners for the Unsigned Stage, now in its second year, were announced as Stoney (Friday) and Polytechnic (Saturday).

Leeds' Vib Gyor will headline the Topman Unsigned Stage on the Sunday evening. Other Leeds bands announced for the weekend include O Fracas, Napoleon IIIrd, The Somatics, four day Hombre, The Lodger, d-koy and The Scaramanga Six.

The remainder of the bands selected to play -from all over the North- are Snowfight In The City Centre, The Interiors, The Guild, The Landaus, The Bonnitts, Censored, Mr Beasley, Viva High Rollers, Champion Kickboxer, Ernest, Little Ze, Letters and Colours, Dirtyblonde, Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire and The Dirty Dreamers.

Further bands are expected as the Futuresound 2006 competition comes to a close in the next week or two, so anticipate more Leeds bands to be announced shortly.

Congrats to the bands involved, well deserved and all that but shouldn't the stage be renamed to "The Topman Unsigned or Run Your Own Label Stage"? It's a mouthful but at least it would be true and honest. Is it just that the simpletons in the powers that be have no grasp of independence and just see everyone else as unwashed because they don't bum them with the usual corporate shmooze? By this token Forward Russia could appear on this stage! But no-one would expect that?

I agree with you Rick.

And consider that over the two years the bands that have or will play will have been 'signed' to labels such as Fierce Panda (for one example).

I've tried to avoid calling it an Unsigned Stage, wherever possible, but it's hard when that is what Mean Fiddler are promoting it as in its official stage name.

I really do have a thing against people using the term 'unsigned', and in this day it means so very little anyway.

I doubt Forward Russia would play that stage - they're Radio One tent boys (& girl) now ;-)

I'm going to be cross as a curmudgeon if those names I don't recognise turn out to be pub rock wannabes like one or two of the outer fringes last year. Leeds alone has enough national quality talent to fill all three days ... so these other babies had better be good!

But, with six stonkingly good bands from Futuresound to add, I'm quite looking forward to seeing the whole thing.

You'd like Viva High Rollers ;)

I heard a little of Snowfight In The City Centre and they were good I thought. And I think Stoney were good as well.

Not sure about much of the others.

Leeds bands O Fracas and Napoleon IIIrd also added to the line up (their announcement was delayed until after Futuresound).
