Pearl Jam
Live at Leeds Festival 2006 on Friday, 25th August 2006
Whilst some bands over the weekend will be dwarfed by the enormity of the main stage Pearl Jam seem to fill it just by walking out on to it. The band put on a show more than worthy of the headline slot pleasing everyone with classics such as "Alive" and "Given To Fly", the former's chorus being sung out loudly by those in attendance. Eddie Vedder's quick paced vocal line on "World Wide Suicide" along with the powerful crunch of Mike McCready and Stone Gossard's guitars prove though that this is a band that have more to offer than just a greatest hits set. The new material from their current eponymous album goes down equally well with fans old and new alike as Vedder looks to be thoroughly enjoying himself as he spits out the lyrics to "Severed Hand" as much as he does to those of "Even Flow". Closing with a cover of the Neil Young classic "Rockin' In The Free World" it's a great end to the day and the end of a blistering set from the rock veterans.
