This girl has balls. Big hairy ones. Now I'm not usually a fan of lady-friends with add-ons but in Tigs' case I very much approve. Something New is a dark, strong and unrelenting ride through Tigs trying to work out if there's chemistry between her and a prospective fella. All very nice if you like throw-away lyrics. Tigs however claims she wants to make 'smart, literate punk music... a punk record with something to say'. This isn't that. Influences are clear from these songs and Patti Smith and PJ Harvey are both obvious names to bring up. A more recent female vocalist to use in comparison is Liela from Duke Spirit who could actually be singing B-side Good Things. This track again has a dark, brooding backdrop for Tigs to shine on and next single Mind Invader has a cool crisp riff with a surging, fuzzy bassline. It's good but not a step forward from Something New. Tigs has the raw power and talent to do well. On this outing she may have to wait a while.
