Inflated egos and being surrounded by 'yes men' usually mean that what a film star interprets as 'good music' is a lot different to the public's perception. Of course people love to 'celebrity - bash', but to be fair it's rare that film stars are successful musically. One look in Morrisons' bargain bucket and there is always a copy of David Soul's 'Love Songs' or something similar.
Thankfully, Juliette Lewis has managed to avoid the rubbish that her peers so often release. The secret is probably down to the fact that she's doing something that she loves and she's putting 100% into it. She doesn't have a great voice, but I don't think she tries to be a great singer more an effective singer. Her raspy voice is like a punk version of Janis Joplin's soulful tone.
The single 'Hot Kiss' isn't anything new, it's just a fine song full of attitude. The band is not trying to re-write rock history, they're just doing something they enjoy are they're bloody good at it.
