By Gentleman's Pistols
Lizzylike, juicy, succulent and compelling, Chris Rogers's guitar snakes its way out of Adam Clarke's drumbeat to proclaim the moment has arrived for James Atkinson to let us have it with the vocal and find out what 'Just a Fraction' is all about. Less physical than you might expect lyrically but oozing seventies rock DNA: at a few seconds above three minutes listeners get a good working-over and enjoy it. Exhaustion counts for nothing as the sleazy throb of 'Heavy Petting' moves on; not quite such a fine match of voice and instruments this time, but an effective moody listen all the same. The mix on this single keeps percussion towards the back of the sound, which may not always be possible in the live delivery of Gentleman's Pistols. The result is valuable access to qualities that might sometimes be masked on stage.
