The Answer are embarrassing. It sounds like Creed threw all their Bon Jovi records out and got into The Sweet and Aerosmith. But not in a good Jet way. In a Rooster kind of way. Seriously, all this 70's revivalist stuff wears thin on a guy like me who actually listens to the original bands without my tongue in my cheek, (Ramones t-shirts in Topman anyone?), but this really is awful. The A, "Under the Sky" is catchy but so polished, the band could be degenerates but their record company bought them all these cool amps so they cant help but sound "great". Which isn't the point. There is no grit, no passion, no guitar solos that don't sound like The Lemon Song, and not a single outstanding hook to be heard.
The B-sides sound like Reef and The Bluetones.
I could start some argument about the lack of progressive pop music in the current musical climate but as long as bands like Kings of Leon, Wolfmother and Jet are coming up with cool, not-too-serious, revivalist rock stompers, there's no point in The Answer at all.
Go pick up some Creedence Clearwater Revival records.
