Heretics and Killers

By Protest The Hero

At just 19, Protest The Hero have achieved a lot already and in listening to this single it's not hard to see why. Heretics And Killers is their new single taken from their debut album Kezia. It's hard to know where to start simply because of the amount of ground the band covers in 3:03 seconds. They're heavy as fuck when they want to be, making sure the metal box is ticked. However they also have a post-hardcore edge in the vocals reminiscent of Alexisonfire. The time signature changes are heavily featured in this song, which makes it hard to listen to the first few times, but that's generally the case with most great music. Amongst all these time signature shifts are melodic breakdowns to satisfy every fan (there's even an unexpected acoustic guitar).

My biggest problem with this single though is the amount they have crammed into the song. Although every idea is good, and they are extremely talented, there's just too much going on here for a three minute song. They say Art is never really complete but even I'd say they overdid it with the ideas here. But Protest The Hero are great and no doubt they will blow Bullet For My Valentine off the stage on their forth-coming tour.
