This is the first single release from the Dance to the Radio label that doesn't feature a Leeds artist. Not only that but the band on show here are actually... wait for it... German! Oh dear. It doesn't sound promising does it?
Well bollocks to musical jingoism because this is superb. This is Sometree. And it's the best thing I've heard from the label since Forward Russia gave us Thirteen. In fact it might just be better than that.
Hands and Arrows is a pumping, pulsating attack of a tune. A passionate and heart breaking epic it combines Yorke-esqe vocals, steroid driven shoegazing and the most finger bleeding bass line you've ever heard.
Haunting and breathtaking in its delivery Hands and Arrows builds and builds and builds into a monster wall of sound, dragging with it anything and everything that gets in its way, before cutting out into ear aching nothingness that leaves me begging for more.
Backed by b-side Notion, which sounds like Mogwai's finest wig out moments condensed into a 4 minute rock song, this is a humdinger of a single release.
With a new roster of alternative bands beyond the realms of Leeds it seems that the best is yet to come from DTTR. And on the quality of its past releases that's quite a scary thought.
