The Scare? Let loose in a recording studio? After seeing the lead singer Kiss rub his crotch on a crowd member's face, then convulse on the floor for several minutes, I never thought the day would have arisen. Condensed, juiced and poured into ears via means of a CD player, this latest smattering is like dancing with knives; strangely coherent, yet razor sharp and gritty. With hysterical Antipodean falsetto vocals, warped power chords and the smashing up of anything within a 5mile radius of the drum kit Bats! Bats! Bats! sounds like the slightly confused and estranged lovechild of a ˇForward, Russia!, The Birthday Party and Wolfmother threesome. Yes, from listening to the opening the track must indeed be the result of remembering crazy drugged up years in the outback, an anxious build up, then a shot of adrenaline straight to the eye. But what about the title feature? Is the mention of bats a reflection on Kiss' state of mental health? Maybe it's playing homage to a scene in Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, or perhaps, he just really likes bats.
