By The Zico Chain
The Zico Chain have been pushing on the boundaries of the rock mainstream for a while now with their mix of grunge and heavy rock. This year looks to be ZC's year after a string of interest from various magazines and tours with Alkaline Trio, Wolfmother, Thursday, Fall Of Troy and Nine Black Alps, and with that kind of experience you can't go wrong really.
So the song 'Where would you rather be?' ... my first impressions of it is that it sounds very American vocally, but the guitar hook lines sound very British. Imagine meshing together Velvet Revolver, Biffy Clyro and Nirvana and you start to hear The Zico Chain. Lead singer Chris Glithero's vocals rip through the song demanding all the attention. This works particularly well with Paul Frost's guitar parts which seem to complement the vocals amazingly, especially in the chorus.
The song takes you back to the 90's in the sense that you remember why grunge was loved and why the genre did so well, because 'Where would you rather be?' just rocks. It's not there to change music forever or gain any particular fan base, the song was written just to rock out to live, and as someone who's seen the band live I know they do rock. So if you're planning on buying any song on iTunes this week, make it this one.
