Biography

The Pattern Theory's first foray into the financially insecure wasteland known as 'high-fidelity-smooth-rock', began in 2007 in Leeds, West Yorkshire. They self-released a well received EP (EP1) and culminated the year performing with the legendary Damo Suzuki.

The end of 2008 saw them relocate to Berlin. Based there, they gigged and toured extensively throughout Germany, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands, Czech Republic and the UK - playing with bands as wide ranging as Russian Circles, Plants and Animals, The Drift, Icy Demons, Library Tapes and The Declining Winter.

Their self-produced debut album was recorded in a disused office space in East Berlin. As the songs developed, they expanded the original instrumentation of guitars and drums with various synthesizers, vibraphone and xylophone. The self-titled album will be released on 13/05/2011 on Valeot Records, accompanied by a European tour with good friends Epic45 in May.

The Pattern Theory are: Carl Schilde, Lukas Creswell-Rost & James Yates.

- "very promising, like Yo La Tengo in mellow mood doing an Ali Farka Toure tribute." - THE GUARDIAN

- "Spiralling into sweet existence and clanging together in a climatic opus, The Pattern Theory do what other bands could only dream of..." - END OF THE ROAD FESTIVAL 2010

- "tonight they seem to be monstrously precise. Not only rhythmically - it goes without saying that, as an ensemble, their cohesion is devastating as always - but elsewhere, too, not a musical hair is out of place. Tone colours and dynamics are meticulously and colourfully balanced." - LEEDS MUSIC SCENE

- "The Pattern Theory strive for perfection, (and) are definitely walking the walk outside of the regulation box." - DROWNED IN SOUND

- "interweaving individual threads of guitar, bass and drums which fit together into something that's part melody, part algorithm... like Battles but much more organic." - MANCHESTER MUSIC
