Polytechnic: Won't You Come Around?

3.5
With their permanent bed head and adorned in cardigans, Polytechnic are an Indie wimp's wet dream. Having previously witnessed a particularly lacklustre live performance that had about as much energy as one of the losing toy bunnies from the Duracell advert, hopes for this single were decidedly low. However there be tunes in them there hills and this has a summertime shine to it which belies the band's image of a permanent overcast sky. Jangly guitar, strained vocals and with a spring in their step, as a tune it is the equivalent to "Clap Your Hands Say Yeah" played at a quicker speed or "Hefner with more guitars and less pain. Likeable and liveable but it will do well to stand out from the crowd. Indie wimps should do their best to seek it out and then afford themselves their yearly smile at their cleverness compared to a world that does not understand them or their reasons for stretching the sleeves of their second hand BHS cardigan over their hands.
