Oh My God

By Mark Ronson

He clearly needs no introduction. If you don't know his name where have you been? He's the sound of '07 don't you know? And teaming up with chav-tasticly popular Lily Allen could only be a step in the right direction.

The opening of Mark Ronson's version of Kaiser Chiefs' classic club filler is awesome. It makes me wanna undo my top button and strut! A 70s feel chilled out opening, enhanced by the kicking-in brass, then prising the doors ajar for Ms Allen's vocals, it starts as it means to go on. I'm not a massive fan of Lily as a person but I quite like some of her music. Mixing her workable speak-style singing with a concoction of tangible notes, she complements the trumpets and beaty backing track. If you didn't know what the lyrics were in the original version, you will now as they are sung unmistakeably. The track ends in a groovy fashion as well. It's good, 'tis all good.

I'm sure across the country there have been people who have covered this, but not to this point of excellence. It does some mighty-fine justice to the original and will have your summer bouncing along as it races up the singles chart. The 'common' touch of the vocals I feel works brilliantly and its ace to hear a fan favourite covered in this manner. I bet the Chiefs are pretty happy, Allen's probably happy, Ronson's undoubtedly happy, and I'm happy.

Oh My God, I can't believe it... another amazing Mark Ronson song!

"He's the sound of '07 don't you know?" Sadly I do and I am going to hibernate until next year when someone else is the sound of 08.
