Grip Like A Vice

By The Go! Team

Since bursting onto the scene in 2004 with Mercury Prize nominated debut album 'Thunder Lightning Strike', The Go! Team have been missed. They are back, and with the always-difficult second album awaiting release by the end of summer (are we having a summer this year?) the first single is just a taster of what we should expect. And boy it tastes gooooood!

Opening with a mix of notes and rhythms, the single could well be track one off the new album as it is a good introduction. After half a minute or so the wonderfully formed 'fly girl' singing commences. Mixing these raps with the electro beats and garage style noise, this demonstrates just what we loved from the first album, and what we crave continues throughout the second.

'Grip Like A Vice' includes the awesome blend of vocals and distinctive sounds. I've always thought the Brighton based band could succeed if they were just instrumental, but with the highly unique vocal work they are enhanced ten, maybe eleven fold. It is clear that the Team haven't stepped too far away from their award nominated debut nature, why would they? I'm also glad they haven't stepped away from fun. The Go! Team wouldn't be The Go! Team without the happy smiley songs they create. If you liked their first pit stop with 'Thunder Lightning Strike', then the second pull over you are going to worship. There's no 'I' in The Go! Team, but there are three in 'Grip Like A Vice'.
