This track, if I remember aright, grabbed a certain amount of airplay a few months back. Someone, however, seems to think that it warrants another bite at deserved chart glory. At least, I can't think why else it would've ended up on the review pile at LMS Towers, and thus it falls to me to pen a few words for anyone who missed it first time around.
Suffice to say that, if this truly is a song about ping pong then it's definitely not about bored kids killing time down at the youth club. No way, this is definitely the sonic equivalent of a couple of those chinamen you catch on TV whenever the Olympics roll around; slapping the projectile back and forth at about 100mph, usually from about 20 yards back. Suffice to say that 'Just A Song About Ping Pong' is fast and furious, but not without accuracy, direction and the odd showy bit of backhanded top-spin.
This track is a maelstrom of pounding drums, handclaps and machine gun vocals, punctuated by blazing riffs and searing synths. One band member seems to be listed as playing violin. I can only assume that they were either smashing it over someone's head or, possibly, playing table tennis with it. A delicate string serenade this is not, but a frenetic pop romp that'll leave you feeling more like you've been rushing round the squash court than gently paddling a ping pong ball back and forth.
