Jolene
By Ray LaMontagne
What can I say about Ray LaMontagne that you haven't heard already. I can hardly say that this song had any sort of emotional response for me because it was simply too obvious. Before I even put in the CD I knew exactly what I was about to be hearing. Time after time we hear the same ballad-esque acoustic song with a backdrop of strings and some heartfelt message of love, in this case 'I found myself face down in a ditch, booze in my hair, blood on my lips, a picture of you holding a picture of me', Which would have been very interesting if it wasn't played at an annoyingly slow tempo with such an increasingly familiarity to about a thousand other songs I've already heard.
I don't expect Ray LaMontagne to reinvent the wheel but to reinvent a song rather than reanimate would be a start. Well at least it's in key I guess.
