Shuffling in on a drum pattern begging to be sampled, the first few seconds of the song potentially herald an interesting listen. What follows is a 3 minute emo 'love' reminiscent of star-shaped tattoos on the wrists of teenagers nationwide: not exactly original but seemingly socially acceptable.
A not-so-distant cousin of bigger emo 'anthems' (the chorus here is pure Fall Out Boy - Sugar I'm Going Down), it's easier to imagine this lot coming from Manchester, Connecticut than Manchester, T'Other Side of T'Pennines. The plodding bassline detracts from the twinkling keyboards which strive to lift this track from the unimaginative pack, but other than the vocal melodies (punchy) and harmonies (superbly captured) there is little here to suggest originality. This is why people like Jo Whiley will probably love it.
A case of 'done well,' rather than 'well done'.
