By Deserves To Die
Deserves To Die are one of those rare British metal bands that manage to combine all the elements needed to succeed in the genre today, whilst never sounding derivative, or, in the case of most British metal bands, a lackluster alternative to their superior American counterparts. 'Surrender All But Our Skin' combines crushingly heavy riffs, punishing breakdowns and soaring choruses, shades of God Forbid and As I Lay Dying sit comfortably with a decidedly British undertone. Songs such as 'Torn Beyond Self Demise' manage to walk the fine line between being anthemic and shamelessly commercial, savage riffing managing to make sure the balance is tipped in the formers favor. It's that ability to walk the line that has led to them being compared to both Bullet For My Valentine and The Haunted, a juxtaposition if ever there was one. Their obvious abilities have also earned them support slots with a vast array of today's biggest bands, from St. Albans rave metallers Enter Shikari, to American metal legends Lamb Of God. This year looks to be a big one for Deserves To Die, and on the strength of this release, they might have to change their name to Deserves to Conquer.
