Velma's Time
Live at Packhorse on Friday, 2nd March 2001
There is something annoyingly compelling about VELMA'S TIME. Despite the striking disappointment I had with their music, which wasn't particularly astounding, they were so attention grabbing. Not through their stage presence, but purely their early Hole-esque music - with all of its simplicity and effectiveness it actually kept my focus throughout. I wanted to hate them; I really did, especially when I watched the female vocalist/guitarist play one-fingered bars throughout. But I applauded along with everyone else (even during their sound check - how was I to know?) and thought "yeah, nice opening band". Velma's Time proved that stripping music down to the bare bones just sometimes works.
