Waiting For Go
By The Dykeenies
The most striking thing about this single is how it takes seemingly disparate parts of guitar-based pop music from the last 25 years and turns them into a rolling, modern blast of a song. Chugging in on a riff that sits somewhere between The Cars and The Mock Turtles, 'Waiting For Go' really kicks in with the U2-esque guitar line, complete with punchy (if a little under-loud) guitars and percussion. By the time the double tracked, slightly Americanised (think Bowling For Soup!) yelp of a vocal kicks in, it almost feels like it shouldn't work together. But it does. More about melody than lyrics, and song structure rather than musicianship, it's a song that doesn't do much of anything new, yet manages to feel fresh enough to imagine pogo-ing along to in a rather large tent this summer.
