The Beat Maras
The Beat Maras (pron. Beat Mare-ers) came to life through meeting friends of friends.
Since playing their first live set mid to late 2006, the band have gone on to play various London venues such as The Old Blue last, Rhythm Factory, 12 Bar Club and the Barfly.
After rehearsing all over the south from friends Barns to Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly studios. The maras can now be found either in their squat rehearsal room off Brick lane off Brick lane or in there studio in Hitchin.
The Beat Maras like to think of themselves as the band that appeals to 'down to earth brickies' and the 'up in air hippies'.
The band is comprised of:
Alex Templeton T-bone - Ward
Lead Vocals, Omnichord, Circuit bending, saw and general weirdness.
- Also plays bass in live London legends, Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences.
Stuart Ward
Rhythm guitar and backing Vocals.
- He didn't speak for a year.
Eddy 'The Gun' Miller
Lead guitar.
- Is a plumber by day.
Louis 'The Sheriff' Sherr
percussion and drums.
- Makes pies for a living.
Robert 'the Graveyard' Bond
Bass guitar.
- Is the graveyard bond.
Releases
Their only release to date is 'The Huaraz EP' due out on 24th March 2008.
The Huaraz EP' combines the mystic lyricism of Templeton-Ward with the off kilter arrangements of the band and the youthful enthusiasm of the band's live performances.
The production was done by Ian Button; a member of Death In Vegas and also Alex's bandmate in Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences. Button is the Martin Hannett of his day and has his finger on the pulse of the most exciting, genuine and unspoilt musical movements London has seen.
