My Paper Made Men
By Amy Studt
You may recognise the name and remember Amy Studt as a hesitant yet flourishing teenage star. After her debut album sold around 200,000 copies and she gained 3 top twenty singles, she pondered stepping out of the world of music for good. She's back though, matured, brimming with confidence and ignoring the fame side of music that made her deliberate her future.
'My Paper Made Men' might just be the album you've been searching for. As it's becoming slightly sunnier (apparently we're due a heatwave!) and summer is slowly approaching, Amy's romantic and intricate lyrics along with the passionate combinations that back her vocals are quite beautiful. You'll be glad that she realised that she had a "fantastic opportunity to actually do something" and came back to her music. She even toured with Razorlight in 2006 under the alias 'Jane Wails', writing and performing exactly as she wanted to, deciding on her own course, doing it her way.
Powerful in so many different ways from start to finish, stand out tracks include 'Sad Sad World', 'She Walks Beautiful', what Amy told me is arguably the best song that she's ever written 'Here Lies Love', and of course, the new single 'Chasing The Light'. You may recognise the download-only track that she released late last year titled 'Furniture'. This drew comparisons to Bjork and PJ Harvey, whilst she's also got elements of other female solo artists including Fiona Apple and Kate Bush. She has charm, belief, emotion, beauty and creates music that quite literally comes from her soul.
