By One Night Only
Now, don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with One Night Only. Certainly, they are very accomplished musicians, seem to be nice people and are liked enough by the British public (who voted a dog through to the final of Britain's Got Talent remember) to have two Top 40 singles and a Top Ten album. But it is because of this that leads me to wonder what exactly is right about them. They are average, nothing more, nothing less, but it is their sheer ordinariness that lets them down. They dress at Top Man, they are unremorsefully middle class and they are a band you would happily take your children to see. It's About Time, the band's third single, is a perfectly decent pop song, with catchy hooks and hummable riffs but it is completely forgettable. It is the sort of song that will just pass you by, without being hated nor loved. The song, very much like the band, is nothing more than average; but who I am to say that being average is a bad thing?
