By Shout Out Louds
Back in 2005 Shout Out Louds released their debut album 'Howl Howl Gaff Gaff' which I was a big fan of. I was apparently not the only one, as heavyweight bands such as The Strokes, The Magic Numbers and Kings of Leon all expressed admiration and offered support slots on their tours. Hailing from Sweden, the quintet is now back, three years on, with album number two. Possibly one of Scandinavia's greatest exports, behind Abba and Ikea, they release new album 'Our Ills Wills' on the world.
From opening track 'Tonight I Have To Leave It' through the entire album, you hear the infectious melodies, passionate vocal work and a sound that includes elements of 90s pop right through to modern day and perhaps even post-modern sounds. Every track is near perfection, tender, idealistic, brimming with confidence. Standout tracks include my favourite track 'Time Left For Love', 'Your Parents Living Room' and the fascinating 'South America'. All the tracks are worth listening to; they all have their own indulgent ingredients.
Recorded in their home city of Stockholm and produced by the 'sixth member' of the band Bjorn Yttling (of Peter, Bjorn and John) the album has guest appearances by Lykke Li, members of Absentee and the producer's own band mate John Ericsson. The album title refers to secrets, why we need them and what makes us keep them, and even though they have developed this inquisitive subject matter, the songs all repeatedly point their musical fingers toward honesty and its importance. Having toured the UK earlier this year, they will no doubt have gained more fans and this record will continue to please until Shout Out Louds return to our shores.
