Muse

Live at Leeds Festival 2002 on Sunday, 25th August 2002

Kicking off with 'Newborn', this show leaves no doubts about spiky-haired frontman Matt Bellamy's musical abilities. His vocal theatrics throughout are impressive, every single note sung like he really means it (and no mistake). He also shows himself to be an accomplished pianist and guitarist, flourishing his way through, amongst others, 'Deadstar' (a chart hit in June) and 'Feeling Good', as well as 'Plug-in Baby' and 'Muscle Museum'. Muse are all about drama and being over the top, traits which can most easily be received in the spirit intended when the band plays live, especially against the backdrop of the sunset falling around the Main Stage. Even if this kind of music is not your cup of tea, watching the band navigating their instruments through such complex, intricate songs is breathtaking in itself. 'Bliss', Muse's final song, is apparently the last they will perform this year; those not here tonight will feel like they've missed a real treat.
