EAST AFRICA GOT SOUL! is a night celebrating the music of East Africa and the wider African Diaspora, and raising money to save people's lives in East Africa. Manchester's D.J Coops (Band on the Wall/Sela Bar/Roundhouse) will be spinning dance floor-filling Funk and Soul grooves from Kenya and Ethiopia, as well as Nigeria, South Africa, Mali and more! The night will also feature live performances by Corinne Bailey Rae, John McCallum, Band and Special Guests who will be interpreting their favourite African-American Soul, Gospel and Funk.
EAST AFRICA GOT SOUL! is being organised by Corinne Bailey Rae in response to the Food Crisis in East Africa. More than 10 million people in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and the newly-formed Republic of South Sudan have been left in need of food, water and emergency healthcare because of one of the worst droughts in 60 years. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled Somalia due to the drought and conflict, and parts of the country are now afflicted by famine.
ALL TICKETS SALES from this event go to The Disasters Emergency Committee, an umberella organisation, made up of 14 member agencies (including British Red Cross, Oxfam, Save the Children, Christian Aid) which provide aid after disaster in the world's poorer countries.
