An good review on one of my favourite bands, although the reviewer clearly only started buying records in the mid-nineties, whereas I think Jim was buying them sometime in the mid-fifties!!

"Rather never have a review..." than what? What would they rather that to for you to be surprised? Rather never have a review than have a bad review? Everyone surely!? Your point about not getting to hear about bands is a completely fair one, but your point, which I only mentioned in passing, says "All bands be thankful you are getting a review". But why would anyone be thankful of getting a bad review? Does the old adage about all publicity being better than no publicity really ring true? I had always assumed that no one actually believed that!

"...complete with a smashing bit of trumpet..." And trombone damnit! Jees, I wonder why I bother sometimes...

Posted in CD Review: YSN - More

Great band
Great live
Great song.

This band is going to be massive.

Although I can't imagine Mr. W ever using the word "ace" somehow.

Probably be more "charmed, I'm sure" as he sips a glass of Louis Roederer from a Dartington crystal glass.

Posted in CD Review: Ric Neale - Different Than Before

Yes, fair enough you did, I guess that's better! I read it in a hurry, although was it mentioned a little later as well?

Probably not actually... I may be going mad...

Anyway, far be it for me to complain about someone else's four and a half star review! I'm going to shut up now before you mark it down on the gounds of Ric "having irritating friends"!!

Posted in CD Review: Loqui - I Can't Believe It's Not Better

Thanks Mr. de Forge, a very fair review that. Can't say I particularly disagree with you on much of your assessment, although personally I'm rather fond of the silly arrangement of Song 2. Although, with 12 tracks here at only £6 I'm sure people will find at least half of it very enjoyable if I do say so myself! (Which I just have!) On sale now folks

Cheers for that Si, I only run the TTS because I missed out on the Dr. Who? job!

Posted in CD Review: Stuffy and The Fuses - Where's The Captain?

Am I the only person who loves this record? I don't understand people who don't like S/TF! This is a perfect little single IMHO, but I know a lot of people who don't like it. Stereotypical indie is surely sludge like Snow Patrol and Athlete, this is exciting, dynamic and great fun. Hey ho, if we all agreed etc etc....

Posted in Live Review: Vib Gyor + Cardboard Cowboy + iLiKETRAiNS + Drat + The Smokestacks

Thanks for the review of the night. Glad you enjoyed it!

I thought Ranaboy was good, especially as he'd come all the way from Exceter just to play for 20 mins. Good Effort! Hope he made the trip North worthwhile though by taking a trip accross the Pennines to have a laugh at Man U the next day!!

Posted in CD Review: Emmet - Make The Noise

Just thought I'd point out, that although its not normally my kind of music, I think this album is fantastic. For Us is one of the most sublime pieces of dance/rock/pop crossover I've ever heard. Reminds me of hearing Open Up by John Lydon/Leftfield for the first time, only this has the added bonus of having an euphoric uplifting gospal feel to it at the same time. Good work Emmet people!

You can congratulate them personnaly on the 29th at the TTS when you two share a bill, and on the basis of such gushing, quite possibly a room also!

Today is a very good day to bring cricket into anything!!

Posted in CD Review: The Breech - I am New Mexico

The Breech are ace. 'tis official.

...and they are playing the TTS in October (29th) with Being 747, Transparent Things, Xi and Johnny's in the Basement by happy coincidence!

Posted in CD Review: The Wind-up Birds - My Life Was Ruined By The Wind-Up Birds

Several people laughed at me when I said that I thought this band had great potential, from their rather shambling early live performances. I can now smugly say I was right as I too have this demo and it is rather fine. Bit of a mix between Pixies, Pistols and The Smiths if you can imagine such a thing. No idea what they're like live now, but when I first saw them they were, err... unique! Worth digging this out though if you can find it IMHO.

Posted in Live Review: Jon Gomm + Stephen Lomas + Oli Deakin + Tim Canfer

Perhaps, its Stephen Lomas, the Northern Ireland international midfield general for West Ham United and once of Manchester City? Possible not though...

Posted in CD Review: Steer - Sketches

Yeah, but I think you got them on a bad day. As you can tell from the record, the sound is sometimes so dense that it is difficult to be recreated with just a four piece, the fact that you saw them as a three piece makes matters worse.

And for a man of your musical experience don't you think that "one of the worst live bands i've ever seen" is a bit harsh? Not your cup of tea perhaps, but you will struggle to find a much more musically competant band in Leeds. I can think of many, many bands who are a lot worse both live and in the studio. But hey, if we all agreed the world would be a very dull place!

Posted in CD Review: The Scaramanga Six - Cabin Fever

Sorry Steve, must have got the wrong end of the stick on the forum a while back. Thought you guys wanted reviews for the album now. D'oh! Sorry about that. Why not re-release it with a minor tweak and the odd demo later in the year and brand it as a "Speacial Edition" so everyone has to review it again! ;-)

Still, glad you liked it and good luck with it all. Cheers, R.

Posted in Live Review: AntiProduct + The Scaramanga Six + Mr Shiraz + Phluid

Thanks Sam, glad you liked it. Its a bit long, so I'm surprised anyone made it to the end, but sometimes enthusiasm dictates that you just can't sum up so much good music in 300 words!

Posted in CD Review: Ric Neale - Hasn't Heard of You Either

Thanks for the fab review of this, Ric is chuffed! Do you know if anyone from LMS made it down to his show at the Tea Tme Shuffle on the 2nd? Didn't get a chance to check who had showed from the guestlist. Thanks, RPC.

You can see him again if you like openning the Tea Time Shuffle next Friday (2nd), he'll be on at about 6.40pm at the HiFi with D'juba, Serf, Pierpoint and Ric Neale following him in that order
