nice review.........on a tangent I really love that Talking Heads song and recommend the album 'more songs about buildings and food' to anyone interested in the current 'alt country meets africa' feel of so much indie music now..

Not actually at the bruddy, but you might have been able to hear it from there, and i didn't have a listing for 'random student house'

? have we read the same review ? Isn't 'brilliant and understated' pretty much what Jessica says? and it couldn't be less 'insecure and gimmicky'. Jessica's obviously listened to it a few times and then told us what she thinks, the crazy kid.
if you want insecure and gimmicky you should try my reviews.

I am special. the actual score was both 1/10 and 10/10 as it's horrific and fabulous at the same time. your outmoded system couldn't cope with my innovative dual scoring technique.

Maybe we should do a writers poll next year? best live gig/best album/best track and top tip for next year AND then all the above for local bands.

Posted in Live Review: Lightning Bolt + a.P.A.t.T. + Action Beat + Chops

Dear Brudenell, my son attended one of your musical concerts last night, and upon attempting to rouse him this morning I discovered a gibbering shell of a boy with a glazed expression and persistent drool. upon taking him to our medical practitioner we found he was deaf in one ear with the other and i quote ' like picnicking in the bell tower at Notre-Dame'. All I can get out the boy is 'the drums' and 'lightning bolt' if that makes sense to you. furthermore, whilst examining his room for clues, I found that he seems to have suffered a massive bowel failure at some point in the evening, soiling himself most unpleasantly. Is this what passes for entertainment at your so called 'social' club. My boys promising future in further education has been cut dramatically short, leaving him fit only to work the till at Jack Fultons or perhaps, given time, Iceland. I assure you that I'll be writing to our local MP about this latest threat to our youth and you can also look forward to a hefty dry-cleaning bill.

Interesting to see the 360 expanding. The night is fast emerging as an important showcase for local bands, please show them some love by attending and supporting where you can. Live Ed...

Posted in Live Review: The Maccabees + Peggy Sue and the Pirates

Live Ed. note....Peggy Sue and the Pirates seem to have become just Peggy Sue sometime over the last 12 months. I've posted under the former name for continuity. Dave will doubtless have some ingenious solution....

Coincidently, its a little known fact that the La Roux girl is Thom Yorkes younger sister.

Posted in Live Review: Arctic Monkeys + Prodigy + Them Crooked Vultures + Chuck Ragan + Delphic + Dinosaur Pile-up

Cheers for the 'tip-off' on Them Crooked Vultures, even if you forgot yourself! I did wonder why they'd form an off-shoot band so similar in style to QOTSA, why not have more fun with it? Brody Dalle had been on the same stage not long before, definatly an opportunity for a Kylie/Jason moment. And some covers, can you imagine a Led Zep song!! Dave Grohl bashing out 'when the levee breaks'!! The whole tent would have exploded. speaking of tents, cheers for the loan!

Anyone have a different impression of this gig?

Posted in Live Review: Marnie Stern + Nisennenmondai + Tartufi + That Fucking Tank

Nice Review. Sorry I missed the Father & Son in Lycra jumpsuits! Purely on a technical note, did you get a kiss with every t-shirt purchase or were they sold seperately? Perhaps more bands could exploit this marketing opportunity.

Aploogies to Mucky Sailor for only being able to fit 4 acts on the search. We'll get you next time.

Posted in Live Review: Neon Neon

Sorry I missed this one, enjoyed and reviewed the CD without being entirely convinced. The album was apparently recorded on all 80's equipment. cheapskates. I'd pay Har Mar Superstar not to be in my band.

Posted in CD Review: Grand Volume - History

Sorry Russell, I missed this first time around, still liking it though, mainly because it pushed my post-punk buttons, but I can see your point. mind you i've seen far more 'exitable' press releases in my time!!
just to confound things I've just sent in a review of Charlotte Hatherleys latest only to find you reviewed the last one! I'm not a stalker, honest!
