CD Review: Papa Roach - Naked and Fearless
Papa Roach continue their mission to distance themselves from their dodgy nu-metal past, with acoustic EP 'Naked And Fearless.' Firstly, I'm not entirely sure three tracks - one of which is an acoustic version of recently-released single 'Lifeline' - qualifies as an EP (surely, it's more of a long single?) and, secondly, once you take away the big, brash guitars, there's really not an awful lot left of Papa Roach.

CD Review: The Hightones - The Attic Tapes
Oh yeah baby, bring back that rock and roll! Only - if they could play and sing that would be great, but with out of tune vocals and guitars throughout I must say that from listening to this first track "Till The Night Is Through" I am NOT impressed.

CD Review: Lindy - Beautifully Undone
With a name like Lindy you might be conjuring up mental images of a 16 year-old girl wielding an acoustic guitar and a few teen ballads, but actually it's Icelandic in origin and belongs to a 10 foot tall blonde bloke from Canada, still wielding a guitar but thankfully minus the ballads.

CD Review: 16th Round - Matchstick Man
It's actually quite hard to write decent meaningful songs about totally irrelevant rock clichés like angels crying, hard times, girls who don't pay you any attention, dragons etc, and not surprisingly like so many before 16th Round don't manage it either.

Live Review: Chapter Thirteen
For a rock band like Chapter Thirteen an acoustic gig is to say the least - unexpected. I've seen the band many times and when I first heard about this gig I wondered what was going to be left without the crunching guitars and the wide range of effects they usually use in such an imaginative way.

Band Profile: Jeuce
It has been said that a Live Dance Act is the preferred entitlement of new electro/rock boys, Jeuce. CD Review: Paul Weller - Leafy Mysteries
A strange record this. There's a sort of lilting rural tune to it, but some almost clumsy chord changes going on underneath and an over-hit acoustic guitar (what is with big stars making expensive Gibsons sound like Yamaha beginner guitars?).

CD Review: The High Wire - Odds And Evens
The new single from London-based trio The High Wire is hand-clap studded guitar-pop. The breezy combination of hand-claps and springy acoustic guitar is balanced out by a touch of darkness to the dreamy vocals and a light veneer of buzzy electric guitar.

Milo was hosting Night Vision, an interesting mix of music and poetry. Playing first, a three-piece who didn't give their name gave a short mix of covers including and an innovative re-working of Frou Frou's "Let Go" and a somewhat less innovative version of Ryan Adams' "Oh My Sweet Carolina" (maybe they should've done the 'classic' "This Is It"), as well as traditional Irish folk songs.

'All Intents And Purposes,' the debut full-length from March of Dimes, opens with the decidedly low-key, acoustic rattle of 'If We Only Had One Day.' There's some really good talent here: in the playing, the singing and the songwriting. As Kingsley Amis said about some other very pleasing things, 'I'm clear on why I like them, thanks; but why do I like them so much?' The answer has to be a subtle intensity in Wilful Missing's often fragile-sounding songs written and sung by Sam Kipling, with a range of well-controlled instruments in the hands of guitarist Sam Lawrence and bass player Albert Freeman.

CD Review: Damien Rice - 9 Crimes
After an oh-so-tender piano intro from Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan has to move beyond the first phrase or two of '9 crimes' before you're convinced she's the vocalist and that Damien isn't exercising a bit of husky falsetto before getting into his own sound with built in purr-growl facility.

CD Review: Eureka Machines - Everyone Loves You
'Everyone Loves You' is the first single to be lifted off Eureka Machine's full length debut 'Do Or Die.' A power pop rollercoaster of rock and roll riffs and stomping drumbeats, topped off with euphoric pop vocals, 'Everyone Loves You' successfully takes the rock and roll swagger of old, and slathers it in a pop gloss.
