CD Review: The Shermans - Venom
The Shermans' previous single, 'Calling It Wrong' reached number twenty three in the UK indie charts, and follow up single 'Venom' is surely a strong contender for an even higher chart position, as this is maddeningly catchy indie-rock at its best.

CD Review: The Dykeenies - Sounds of The City
'Sounds of the City,' the first single to be lifted from Scottish four-piece The Dykeenies forthcoming second album, is a strings-infused piece of emotional rock that may occasionally slip into comfortable, cliche territory, but for the most part delivers the goods.

CD Review: Thyrd Eye - Say Something
Debut single from Thyrd Eye offers up an uncertain mix of musical styles that's initially jarring. Opening track 'Say Something' features echoey, shiver-inducing gothic vocals from co-vocalist and keyboardist Hannah, which sit awkwardly against the song's twitching, spring-heeled drumbeats and jerking chords.

The debut EP from Leeds-based indie-pop act The March Greens opens with the wistful 'You Don't Need It Or Deserve It.' Clunky acoustic guitar creates a small-scale, intimate vibe that perfectly compliments Spencer Bayles' tentative vocals.

CD Review: At The Zoo - Nouveau Popular
At The Zoo's debut EP is that breed of laid back, melodic ska-punk that replaces aggression and nastiness, with a casual, winding groove that might get you humming along and tapping your foot, but won't have you skanking along like an idiot.

CD Review: Local Natives - World News
'World News' from Los Angeles' Local Natives, is a relentless rumble of booming drumbeats, contrasted against lilting vocals that rise to sudden, wailing peaks, and fleshed out with flickers of guitar that don't lure the listener's attention away from the main event: the contrast between the marching drums and the fluid vocals.

CD Review: Dead Confederate - Giving It All Away
'Giving It All Away,' the precursor to Dead Confederate's 'Sugar' album is a complete about-turn from the gloomy stoner rock of 'Wrecking Ball' - and it's certainly a long way away from the doom-fest of breakthrough single 'The Rat.' 'Giving It All Away' is scuzzy alt-rock where the vocals thread in and out of great swathes of blurry riffing and jangly drumbeats.

CD Review: Cha-Cha - Phonographic Love
The debut single from Cha-Cha, 'Phonographic Love,' comes across a little unsure of its identity. On the one hand, it seems to be aspiring towards cool, quirky indie-rock, with piston-like drumbeats and lurching riffs, but the band then splatter random, garish electro over the top, and transform 'Phonographic Love' into an awkward hybrid.

This three track EP from Midland's four-piece, Rhesus kicks off in truly uplifting fashion, with feel good anthem 'So Alone.' Blending melodic, easy-on-the-ear indie-rock with sugared lyrics and pop-music vocals, 'So Alone' manages to be thoroughly pleasant, without being bland.

'Everyone Loves You' is the first single to be lifted off Eureka Machine's full length debut 'Do Or Die.' Leeds-based outfit Five Mile Island follow up their debut demo, released earlier in the year, with their first full-length 'Satellites.' 'Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear' is the second single to be taken from Underoath's sixth studio album, 'Lost In The Sound of Separation.' Eschewing the usual verse/chorus formula, 'Too Bright....' charts a varied musical landscape, with an emphasis always on the lyrics.

CD Review: Flash Fiktion - Leni
To say this is a debut release, Flash Fiktion's confidence is impressive. CD Review: Luke Hirst - Rock n Roll Begins At Home
Bradford singer songwriter Luke Hirst specialises in the sort of no frills, pop-infused indie-rock songs that we don't seem to see much of anymore, what with 90% of popular acts either being a band, or a female solo artist (ala Lilly Allen, Amy Winehouse, Duffy etc.) Consequently, it's debatable whether Luke Hirst's new EP 'Rock n Roll Begins At Home' will find a ready audience, but that's no comment on its quality.

CD Review: The Hickey Underworld - The Hickey Underworld
Belgium's The Hickey Underworld are one of those bands who are desperate to be seen as 'weirder' than they actually are (just take a look at their website, but not if you've neglected to update your computer for a while, all that moving imagery may be more than it can handle.) This is particularly odd as, although The Hickey Underworld aren't your average post-hardcore band, they're hardly pushing brave new ground.

CD Review: Red Star - Law And Order
'Law And Order,' the debut album from Huddersfield's Red Star, kicks off with 'Northerners (In London Town).' This piece of low-key, laidback indie grooviness relies mainly on a strong vocal performance from frontman Will Bloy and some simple electro beats that add that extra oomph to the chorus.

'All Intents And Purposes,' the debut full-length from March of Dimes, opens with the decidedly low-key, acoustic rattle of 'If We Only Had One Day.' Pop-punk is currently a rather oversaturated genre; so, do we really need Broadway Calls' sophomore effort 'Good Views, Bad News?' Well, not really, although if you're looking for a 90s style, back-to-basics shot of melodic punk, you could do a whole lot worse than the Oregon three-piece.

The Foxes' 'Depression, Joy and a Moment of Fame' EP brings the sunshine with three light, summery indie-pop songs, before finally capturing your full attention with the unusual, subtly humorous 'Country Low.' The most memorable of the three upbeat summer-songs, is the beautifully hazy 'Something About You.' The blurry-eyed guitar-work is complimented by the occasional starburst of acoustic strumming and melt-in-the-mouth, lilting vocals.

CD Review: Everything We Left Behind - Pull Back And Go
The debut mini-album from Bristol-based four-piece Everything We Left Behind has a formula, and that formula is: take all the best features of pop-punk (the energy, exuberance and big, fat choruses,) while replacing all the worst features of pop-punk (the tenancy towards character-less over-production; the irritating over-chirpiness) with some actual punk characteristics, like you actually find in actual punk (and not, very often, in pop-punk.) So, album-opener 'Big Thanks To The Sun' features all the usual offenders of the pop-punk genre - springy drumbeats; "whoooooa" backing vocals; melodic-voiced frontman - wrapped up in a crackly production, with lashings of broken-glass riffing and a general roughness that pleasantly recalls local bands and live music.

'1888' is five tracks of hardcore-influenced metal. It's a fair assumption that this is what Bullet For My Valentine would have sounded like if, following 'The Poison,' they had explored the nastier, darker side of their sound, rather than written songs like 'Hearts Burst Into Fire.'
