After an efficient set from Reading newcomers Tripwires who, with their skuzzy, melodic blend of slow core and the sludgy guitar pyrotechnics of Built To Spill, seem to hint at the coming of nu-grunge, and a charming if slightly underdone set from Glasgow band Admiral Fallow, who trade in the sort of fey bucolic articulate indie pop that Scottish bands from Orange Juice to Belle and Sebastian seem to excel at, all delivered with an incongruous gruff manliness, Avi Buffalo bound on to the stage (having first set up their equipment) indecently full of Californian youthful vigour.
