O Fracas @ Faversham

Simon - guitar, piano and vocals Adam - lead guitar Chris - bass Dave - drums Well except for colplday and the music, and of course blazin squad, the british music scene is a shambles, where here to rock it back into shape with a mixture of melodic tunes, uplifting ballads, screaming instrementals and a lead guitarist who enjoys lying on the floor at sponge.

Tim Canfer grew up playing guitar; a longhaired indie-kid in the throws of the grunge era. At the age of 18 he blagged a job teaching music at an American summer camp and, while there, decided against a career in the glamorous world of electronic engineering for the drudgery of Rock 'n' Roll.

The Wow: Come Here EP

The Wow featuring ex-members from Spy vs. Spy and Future Adventures ... blah blah blah ... to be honest I don't care who they were in, I hate this ex-members of whoever rubbish.

Miss Black America: Talk Hard

It's wrong to compare, but what first attracted me to this band was a rock rush, the crash of a song, in an unashamedly indie way.

Band Profile: Kliq

Paul Street - Vocals Stephen Shield - Guitar Jamie Mosley - Guitar Chris Purdy - Bass / Backing Vocals Andrew Dykes - Drums / Backing Vocals Hey there music lovers, we are a new band on the scene in Leeds.

The Forgotten Cowboy: Untitled

Slices of indie, heaps of raw callous vocals and an excitable scattering of computer shenanigans are the makeup behind this truly unique outing from Widnes based loon The Forgotten Cowboy, Pseudonym Dilbert Chesterton.

Band Profile: Sam and Anna

Terms like precocious are banded around a little too easily in music today. Talent forgoes the spotlight and an artist's age is sadly the main talking point.

Pushbike Army: Sleeping In The Ditch

Lets face it, music can transcend plenty of boundaries, but I for one didn't think that time and space was one of them.

Band Profile: The Unsung Heroes

The Unsung Heroes are a diverse rock band from Leeds

Band Profile: Andie Mills

alternative DiY folk musician

House music is an odd genre. Over the past few years, it's been everywhere from funk to punk, and back again.

Tempting Kate: Waiting For Nothing

Three-piece Tempting Kate are a Scotland-based band with a Garforth contact address - drummer Paul is from Leeds - but even the most tenuous Leeds-link is acceptable as far as I am concerned because these guys have sent me a top-class CD with four excellent guitar-pop tracks.

Band Profile: Jeuce

It has been said that a Live Dance Act is the preferred entitlement of new electro/rock boys, Jeuce. Granted, the line up of a bass guitar and an electric guitar is commonly seen of that from a typical band - but when this young collective, inspired and fuelled by a range of dance music decide to accompany these acoustic elements with synthesisers and sequencers.

King Booty: s/t

More funky house music? Oh yes. King Booty sound like some sort of cross between those endless 'chilled dance music' CDs you see clogging up valuable space in Virgin Megastores and the sound of French dance music from about 1998 - 1999.

The Killers: All These Things That I've Done

The Killers are probably the most aptly-named band around at the moment, after having whipped, bludgeoned and slayed their way across the British music scene with sharp ties and nicely-pressed trousers.

10 Days: The Future is Unwritten

"10 Days are one of the truly original bands on the underground currently." "Ten Days are a trio to be at the forefront of the next generation of alt.guitar bands in this city." With chronic press notices like those any band is going to struggle to make an impression.

Band Profile: Area 39

rock prog instrumental

Emmet: Nothing Vs Everything

It doesn't take a finger on the pulse to know that in recent times "Dance" music has been on its knees.

Hatch: 16 Year Divide

When I received this EP from Dave I knew absolutely nothing about Hatch or their music so this is a new experience for me!

Silver Sun: Disappear Here

Admit it, you thought they'd split up didn't you? For those who don't remember 'em first time around, Silver Sun were one of those bands who emerged around the tail end of Britpop specialising in bright and sparkly guitar-pop anthems.

The Fencott Disaster: Rome and Step On It

Four-track EP from these boys - 4 songs of NY garage influenced post punk, not a bad effort, some of the guitar work is quite interesting with the dual lead thing going on and with the bass rumbling away in the back makes for an ok listen.

Band Profile: Rigsby

James Trevelyan (Lead Vocals) Anshul Kapoor (Lead Guitar) Alex De Boer (Keyboards, Vocals) Simon Fitzpatrick (Bass Guitar, Vocals) Greg Sykes (Drums) A shared passion for guitar driven, melodic rock inspired five Huddersfield University students to start making music together.

Palo Alto @ Mixing Tin

It was when the drums kicked in that Palo Alto immediately demonstrated how phenomenal they are. Glances were exchanged with comrades, sat around one of the low tables at Leeds' newest and hugely promising full-time music venue Mixing Tin.

Cardboard Cowboy: Untitled

This is a good CD. I'm told nothing about the band before I slot the disc in my machine, just a pretty piss poor name and a green CD/r.

Band Profile: Johnny Poindexter

Johnny Poindexter's music was often described as bleak, bold, beautiful, and anything inbetween. Safe to say, you wouldn't find it down the disco.

The High Chairs @ Cockpit

When I arrived at The Cockpit for this evening's musical extravaganza, I was struck first of all by how quiet it was.

Band Profile: Permafrost

Alternative psyche/prog/goth/ambient rock band

Matt Joe Gow: Bullet

There's no denying Matt Joe Gow's sincerity as he breathily sings "You were my one true love", but the snaps adorning his website of him strumming in a white vest akin to an aftershave advert, paint an uncomfortable picture.

Lorimer @ Joseph's Well

Tonight was a night that saw the merging of football and local music, and whilst the action on the field fell short of inspiring the music was, as expected, spectacular.

The Outlines: Love EP

This is a big-hearted CD with two very good songs. The sound is full, the tunes are strong and Matt Worall has a voice on him that draws all the attention.

Designated Driver: Design At Edd River

Middlesex's Designated Driver do what a lot of modern Emo frat-party nu-punk rockers don't - they actually write songs that feel like they mean it rather than purely sounding good when you've got a skinful.

Band Profile: The ABC Club

Zandra Klievens - Vocals Jordan Radcliffe - Guitar Jack Haigh - Bass Sam Marns - Drums David Barber - Guitar Shoegaze guitars and ethereal vocals are a well proven combination, and The ABC Club don't put a step wrong to disprove this.

Flaccid Soapher: Untitled

Flaccid Soapher are a four piece rock'n'roll band from Halifax. They call themselves experimental, but the sound on this CD is straight down the middle smalltown heavy guitar music built in four bar chunks with a blues foundation.

The Cut: Walking Lonely Streets EP

Has anyone ever seen a really cheesy porno flick, or even a piss take of one? If you have then you will most likely have heard that defining music that plays in the background.

Band Profile: Jinzena

Jinzena... we do it our own way - the music that is. No conforming to unwritten rules or daft trends.

Red Shift: Violent Cop EP

Not too sure what to think about this EP really. A 4 piece "Yorkshire-based alternative rock outfit", recorded this on an 8 track in their drummer's garage in true punk rock fashion apparently.

Nature Has Patterns: Untitled

For someone raised on guitar music, the whole concept of electronic music doesn't always sit well with me.

Polytechnic: Cold Hearted Business

Manchester-based Polytechnic's latest release 'Cold Hearted Business' is a song about the reality of being involved in the music business.

Explosions in the Sky: The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place

Texas guitar band Explosions in the Sky have been building themselves a reputation over a slow-burning three years of intense and single-minded music making.

Band Profile: M62 Goddam

Featuring the talents of Bill Hudson (harmonica, penny whistle, melodica, percussion and backing vocals) Dougie Brister (vocals, lead guitar), Cecil Zinyuku (vocals, guitar, percussion and production), with contributions from Denny Austin (rhythm guitar, vocals, songwriting), and Liz Mackenzie (songwriting and vocals).

Disarm: By Any Means Necessary

What can I say about Disarm? This is a band of energetic musicians that makes a team Sir Alex Ferguson would be proud of.

Felix Leiter: Lighter Than Leiter

"Lighter than Leiter" is a 2 track CD with "Ten to Seven" and "Learning to be Selfish" pushing out the word about this back to basics three piece band.

30 Day Hex: Black Square : Yellow Square

30 Day Hex class themselves as "experimental rock" and bring us an 11 track album full of melancholic madness.

Band Profile: DC66

Pete Higginson - Vocals and Lead Guitar Leigh Green - Rhythm Guitar and Backing Vocals Tom Mitchell - Bass Guitar and Backing Vocals Liam Allen - Drums and Harmonies DC66 started life as Harvey Dent in 2004 but, re-launched themselves in 2009 with a new drummer, a rhythm guitarist, and a new name.

The Dykeenies: Waiting For Go

The most striking thing about this single is how it takes seemingly disparate parts of guitar-based pop music from the last 25 years and turns them into a rolling, modern blast of a song.

Ridgevex: s/t

Not bad beginner stuff. But a long way from ready to roll up the slithering pile of shite that is modern popular music.

Band Profile: Unexploded Shells

Awkward indie noise-pop

Rodrigo Y Gabriela @ LMUSU

The duo of Rodrigo Y Gabriela have wowed crowds at Glastonbury and Womad with their amazing guitar skills.

The Faith Healers @ The Junction (Otley)

Readers of the Leeds Music Scene website might be forgiven for thinking that I never watch bands anywhere other than The Junction in Otley.

Blue Mantis: Real Life Is Absent

Blue Mantis do muscular, slow rock with a heavy heart. Each song lumbers along like a Motorhead single played at thirty three and a third.

Band Profile: Tug Ether

alternative rock

Michael Rossiter: Like a Green Moray on a National Path

A very relaxing chilled out effort from Michael Rossiter, this roughly recorded demo is something of a little gem, sounding like the backing music for Watercolour Challenge or any other relaxing daytime show for your grandparents.

Band Profile: Percy

Founded in York, UK, May 1996. Percy are a distinctive evolution of the North of England's post-punk indie pioneers.

Humanzi: Long Time Coming

Band Profile: Hundred Dollar Cigar

Hundred Dollar Cigar are a three piece rock band from Bradford and have been together for about 5 years.

Kayla Kavanagh is a solo artist with a twist. The 29 year old Irish singer/songwriter performs live with an array of instruments, wires and technology, taking the audience on a journey from acoustic to full technology-led electronica.

The Blueskins: Change My Mind

I heard Change My Mind on BBC 6 Music this week and rather liked it, but as usually happens with me I didn't have a clue who I was listening to.

Band Profile: FOG

Covers band.

Superelectric @ Rocket

London's Circuit magazine and Manchester's Charabanc Promotions have tonight arranged to bring Leeds three of the best bands from the top Northern cities of Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds.

The Fret: Mr Beat

Sometimes I hate writing reviews. I got into it because I love writing and love music. But sometimes you have to review something that you really don't enjoy and it's horrible because it's no fun slagging off bands that put their heart and soul into their music.

Carma: Don't Make Me Do It

A lot of you will know of Geordie boys Carma. They tend to pimp themselves around these parts quite a lot.

The Echo: Cast Those Stones EP

Come on now, another band with "THE" in the title. I received 4 cds this week to review and 3 of the bands were either called the somethings, the somebodies, or the so fucking whats.

5 O'clock Charlie: Find A Place EP

Oh Jesus, Cast are back. No, honestly they are. Well a slightly tarnished, illegitimate son but you get the vague picture.

The Tailors: A New Hairdo

It may seem an odd follow up for Trash Aesthetics, the label that opened the eyes of the world to Bloc Party and The Rakes, to take a gamble with some country music but that's exactly what they've done.

Aqute Couch @ Joseph's Well

Another acoustic night at Joseph's Well and it's noticeable how popular these nights are becoming with around fifty or so sitting and standing in the candlelit venue.

The Olympic Symphonium: More In Sorrow Than In Anger

Another offering from the Forward Music Group featuring three Canadian dudes sharing singing and writing duties, namely Nick Cobham, Kyle Cunjak and Graeme Walker.

Stylus: Untitled

Stylus are a heavy rock band from Cleckheaton. Their three track demo is available for download from the music section of their website.

Dugong: Hat Danko

This is infectious, intelligent, tough music that thrills the hairs on your arms and tucks your granny up at night with a cup of something poisonous.

Tremulous Monk: Sparkle Like Your Shoes

The monk in question is York boy Chris Wilkinson. After building his own studio in his hometown he set about recording several EPs which lead to the release of this album.

Band Profile: Penny Broadhurst

The best librarian pop you ever heard.

Amadou & Mariam: Masiteladi

The majority of you will wince at the very mention of 'world music,' and I don't blame you one bit. 'Masiteladi' is the latest single from Amadou & Mariam, a blind couple from Mali who seem to have simmered away under the radar with two albums and the grace of Damon Alburn.

Band Profile: Baseburner

Formed autumn 2004, Baseburner will stop at nothing to get their music heard. When asked what they play the four piece outfit simply reply 'RAWK!' and get over excited.

Pioneers: Falling

Keeping in tune with the current fascination of resurrecting Britpop, Pioneers arrive with their brand on melodic pop songs, centred around jangly guitars, blistering vocals and fuzzy organ.

Fifth Goodbye: This Is My Impression EP

Sadly, I cannot remember back to my experimentation with guitar playing so the name of the guitar effects used to open Bandstand escapes me, so for my lack of technical knowledge I do apologise.

Rhode Island: Horsefly

"We're in for a treat here," was my first thought when glimpsing this rather professional looking, although homemade, I'm assured, CD.

Brody: s/t

Metal has arrived people, and it has in the form of Brody. This Leeds based four-piece have, over the last few months, astounded everyone with their live performances.

HIM: Wings Of A Butterfly

This formulaic piece of Finnish Scandinavian rock metal offers precious little to tantalise the eardrums.

Scatter: Judas

Football and music. Everyone knows the horror stories. The Anfield rap for instance, Del Amitri singing for Scotland, or even that atrocious butchering of 'Come On Eileen' that plagued every radio station and TV channel during Euro 2004.

Jon Gomm @ Royal Park Cellars

Playing acoustic guitar before Jon Gomm must be a rather daunting experience but Tim knocks out quite a strong set of songs with confessional and indeed rather poetic lyrics with fresh sounding strummy guitar.

Noise Noise: Looking Ahead EP

Hailing from Los Angeles and yet taking influences from such UK stalwarts as the The Kinks, Buzzcocks and The Jam.

Band Profile: Joe Lewis

Joe Lewis: singer/songwriter, guitar Paul Jepson: guitar Simon Albone: bass, keyboards Tim Mills: drums This band have been on the Leeds music scene for a good few years under various names (Tragic Minds, The Neat, Overlord, Gee Spot to name a few).

Speed Circus: Rosie

I resisted this and it still won. Speed Circus can really do it: types of music that never grabbed me before have got me this time.

Amberman: Untitled

Amberman's five-track CD comes in a very well presented package with an equally well-designed CD cover; on the inside there is the message: "this is the eagerly anticipated first demo".

The Palms: Untitled

The Palms really fit the modern day bill with their take on the current Indie rock / dance scene ala Kasabian, but one or too vocal production issues and an occasional penchant for misguided fret-wanking hold them back from hitting the full throttle.

Band Profile: The Smokin Jones

From a song-writing partnership spanning over 3 years, The Smokin Jones was formed in Leeds, UK, by singer Kris Jones and guitarist Kevin Sumpter after a chance encounter at a Shaun Ryder gig.

My Computer: No CV

If you like your music to the point and under 3 minutes then you might be better taking a wide berth around My Computer.

Band Profile: The Old Romantic Killer Band

The Old Romantic Killer Band play blues and folk orientated pop music but they play it hard and loud.

Last Night's TV: Quiet Storm EP

The opening song "Quiet Storm" will be on Last Night's TV's forthcoming album "Too Much in Doubt". The three other tracks, "Some Place to Go", "Shoes, Model's Own", and "Gone" (this last played solo) can only be found here.

Umlaut: Untitled

There must be something in the water down in Derby, as Umlaut recorded this three track EP down in the mid(ish)lands.

Staerimto: Untitled

Staerimto can be described as lush, poignant, quirky folk. In this DIY solo effort lead by John Perry there are moments of brilliance and also emptiness.

Divided by Zero: Untitled

Divided by Zero's new 4 song CD has the angelic whine of Mansun and the fresh innocence of a local band.

High on Fire @ Joseph's Well

I had a lot of preconceived ideas about this gig, hair in the wind guitar solos and flying V's, my stereotypical preconceptions were true, although there was a number of surprises that slightly changed my small minded opinion of these American head bangers by the end of the night.

The Lucida Console: Untitled

This three track demo starts very bright and clear on some strong arpeggiated guitar, with a movement through to a slowly rising bass and drums crescendo that speeds up a little uncertainly.

Band Profile: Indirah

Soul::Rock is how Indirah describe their unique sound which fuses old-school soul vocals with ferocious guitar riffs and frantic, exotic rhythms.

This Black Velvetine: Goodbye

This Black Velvetine's latest release, the three track EP "Goodbye" reeks of all things sleaze, snot and debauched rock.

Archie Bronson Outfit: Der Dang Der Dang

This is the second album from the retro-blues rock group Archie Bronson Outfit. Hailing from the West Country before relocating to South West London, they studied art with, amongst others, members of The Duke Spirit.

Rob Nichols: 2nd Album

Rob Nichols is some rare creature darting across the normally beaten tracks with a flurry of noises and graceful swerves, to disappear in the woods and haunt your memory weeks later.

Band Profile: El Cartel

"el cartel" are a five piece indie band from Leeds, West Yorkshire.

The Chiara L's: s/t

The Chiara L's, named aptly after front-woman Chiara Lucchini, are a sprightly, nave, fun, bundle of scratchy guitar pop.

Band Profile: Mishkin

"Heavy as John Prescott's Wallet" Progressive/alternative metal - you decide!!!!!

Dionysis: The Butterflies Cry EP

Relative babes on the music scene (7 months to be exact), Halifax's Dionysis show a wealth of potential in this hit and miss 3-song collection.

The Kenst: s/t

Funk, why oh why do you keep tracking me down and ask me to review you? I have to start this review by saying that I really don't like funk music.

All My Friends Are Dead @ Mixing Tin

I walk in to the Mixing Tin. It's just past nine o'clock and there's some movement on stage. Disconcertingly, Mr.

Surferosa: Shanghai My Heart

Some music genres never die. The recent wave of highly polished new wave music a la Stellastarr, The Killers, and even Fountains of Wayne is looking to get even bigger, especially with this neon nugget set to blow the charts skyward.

Dripfeed: Untitled

The biog of London based Dripfeed makes numerous references to Coldplay and although the music itself has a distinct whiff of the band it stands up enough by itself to dispense with such lazy comparisons.

Band Profile: Albert Ross & The Otters

Albert Ross, Vocals, Piano, Guitar Laura Haughey, Vocals, Melodica, Organ Dave O'Donnell, Vocals, Guitar, Piano Rob Julian, Bass, Horns Kerry Harrison, Drums and all things percussive This Leeds band is a collaboration of friends and fellow musicians who have decided to come together at long last.

The Pocket Gods: Lost

There are six tracks of home-made music-like stuff here. Track 6 is called "Danube" and it lasts for 17 minutes and 28 seconds.

The Downfall: Atrofeed

To be honest I've never seen Downfall before, never heard a single note played by this lot before, I've heard good things, don't get me wrong, but I've never been to a gig to see them play, call it laziness I guess...

Band Profile: Broadcast Society

Young Leeds three piece

Your Vegas: Flybuzz

Following their sold-out self-titled debut single, Your Vegas offer up a second limited edition single Flybuzz - limited edition not being a PR way of saying small run then?

Band Profile: The Bacchae

NME- "A Dirty, skuzzy garage-rock band whose tracks sound like they were actually recorded in a shed in Detroit by Nick Zinner from Yeah Yeah Yeahs. 'Man' in particular makes us want to neck a bottle of JD, turn up the stereo and shake it like a Polaroid picture."

Mommy & Daddy: Live How You Listen

I read the biog and listened to the CD; I read the biog again and listened again; I re-checked the biog and listened a couple more times; I gave it to a friend - he read the biog and listened, he also re-read the biog and listened again; We both turned to each other and shrugged!

Napoleon IIIrd: EP1

"In life, I'm excited by things that I don't understand" goes the opening line to Napoleon IIIrd's debut, a 7" single on the fast-becoming-legendary-already Dance To The Radio label.

Shy Child: Summer

Appropriately here is a review of a song called "Summer" just as the weather turns wet and cold... no hang on it's always been wet and cold.

Band Profile: Leatherhead

Leatherhead are an alternative rock 3-piece from Leeds.

Juxtaposition @ Joseph's Well

There's a very good turn out for this winter solstice gig at Joseph's Well, and a distinct air of anticipation before Juxtaposition take to the stage.

Band Profile: Last Letter

Logan - bass Red - guitar vocals Parnell - drums After finishing in the recording studio, Last Letter are now ready to distribute their music to the masses.

Love Panda: Should'a Seen It Coming

It all started with the White Stripes. Then, all of a sudden, bands started to crop up with strange combinations of musicians.

Band Profile: Brooke Taylor

Since picking a guitar up for the first time only eight years ago, Brooke Taylor has already crammed more into the resultant time frame than many performers do in a career.

Flipside: Untitled

Flipside's demo spins around in the CD player, while a huge cringe appears on my face. Three tracks, three power ballads.

Band Profile: The Marmozets

The Marmozets are a 5 piece band hailing from Bingley, West Yorkshire. They formed in late 2007 at school and since then they have taken the Bradford music scene by storm winning 3 local Battle of the bands competitions.

British Sea Power @ Leeds Festival 2002

There's something uniquely well, British about British Sea Power when compared to the legions of yank bands on show at this year's festival.

Band Profile: The Echo

The Echo are a group of musicians and songwriters descending from various backwaters across Northern England. With its Americana twist and tequila-toting atmosphere The Echo conjure a cinematic live sound.

Riser: Untitled

Experience dictates that all but a few outstanding songs ever last this longer than 6 mins 30 secs. Therefore it is with some trepidation I note Riser's average track time somewhere above this.

Selflove @ Milo

Milo was hosting Night Vision, an interesting mix of music and poetry. Playing first, a three-piece who didn't give their name gave a short mix of covers including and an innovative re-working of Frou Frou's "Let Go" and a somewhat less innovative version of Ryan Adams' "Oh My Sweet Carolina" (maybe they should've done the 'classic' "This Is It"),as well astraditional Irish folk songs.

Mainline @ Joseph's Well

Uptight borrow from many sounds mostly from around the 60's/70's period to create a funky mod-rock vibe.

Band Profile: The Kaleids

Leeds band The Kaleids consist of Ollie Dickinson (Lead Guitar & Vocals), Mike Robinson (Bass & Backing Vocals) and Rich Thomas (Rhythm Guitar), three lads who have decided to make an original acoustic sound.

Band Profile: Broohaha

Five piece Alternative / Jazzy / Rock / Grunge outfit from Leeds

Grandaddy @ LMUSU

Apparently trucker style baseball caps are now "cool". Well Grandaddy were wearing them long before the ponces and poseurs deemed them suitable to wear and continue to do so now they are, but for much different reasons I'm sure than the world's fashion victims.

Viva Voce: Wrecking Ball

This certainly sounds promising. An indie duo consisting of a female singer/guitarist and her husband drummer (who really can play nearly everything: drums, various percussion, keys, and - wait for it - a kazoo.

Incubus: Talk Shows On Mute

It's been a funny few years for Incubus. From the dizzy heights of success with the mall-metal of their breakthrough album 'Morning View', to nu-metal's untimely demise and losing their bassist, the good looks of lead singer Brandon Boyd aren't the only thing that draws people to them any more.

Kenosha @ Joseph's Well

In the middle of the country's petrol crisis live music just doesn't get any breaks does it. Tonight was supposed to feature three bands, but we had just the two as Inhale had to pull due to transport problems.

Band Profile: Night Herons

Clare Kelly: Vocals Joe Armitage: Lead Guitar & Synthesizer Chris Warr: Rhythm Guitar Tom Kelly: Bass William Ashton: Drums & Backing Vocals Night Herons have been gigging relentlessly around Leeds and Bradford over the last two years.

Band Profile: Those Freeloaders

Those Freeloaders were founded in Leeds in late 2006 by four students from the College of Music, Bruce (bass), Petchy (guitar, vocals, piano and general northern abuse), Liam (guitar and vocals) and Sammy (drums).

David Viner: Mr David Viner

You've probably already got records in your collection that sound like this one, the thing is, you probably stole those records from your dad.

Four Tet: Rounds

Effortlessly cool. Tunefully pure. This is iced peach sorbet for any music-glutted ear. Four Tet (on his fourth album for Domino) does digital cut and paste with beautiful instrumental samples and exotic percussion scrapes.

Cherryfalls: For All My Sins

A clear, heart-breaking guitar line across a damped guitar rhythm track, Joe McAdam's pure soaring voice and heartbreak on the agenda.

Falconetti: Oceanography

Surprisingly the holes left in the music world by the decline of Portishead and (less so) My Bloody Valentine have never been filled.

A: Hi-Fi Serious (with DVD Serious)

Hi-Fi Serious: a constant hi-octane buzz dealt from twelve tracks fired out at warp speed; gloriously unashamed mainstream UK rock, with heavy guitar riffs that emanate from an inherently delightful radio-friendly pop core.

My Morning Jacket: Sweatbees EP

Ok, lets get it out of the way. The Flaming Lips. There, I said it. It's something My Morning Jacket are going to have to live with; people will always make comparisons.

Band Profile: Tender Hooligans

We are now looking for gigs in the Leeds area

The Window Right @ Atrium

Ambient, alternative music is on the cards tonight in the ridiculous upstairs room of the Atrium. Peasman, aka.

Band Profile: Lucky Royale

Anita Mann (drums) Mark Crossley (vocals, guitar) Ali Valium (backing vocals, bass , synth) The band have performed live under forever changing line ups and finally settled as a three piece.

The Ladykillers: The Stars Of A Teenage Wet Dream

Having been exposed to The Ladykillers' live experience - and to be honest, not being overly impressed - I nervously accepted a request for a review of "The Stars Of A Teenage Wet Dream", their latest CD.

Immune: Elek

So this is where rock music got to! It has become interesting again. No skateboards, no tattoos, no trouser furniture, no monitor wedge posturing.

!!! @ Leeds Festival 2004

Having never heard anything by !!! (Chk Chk Chk) before I decided to go see them purely based on what I had read.

Band Profile: Plasticine

Stephen Fox - vocals, guitar, piano Dayle Coe - guitar Jason Ripley - bass Matthew Roberts - drums Stephen Fox, Jason Ripley and Matt Roberts have played music together since their school days in the late eighties.

Charlotte Hatherley: Summer

After arriving home from my brief holiday in Iceland, it's ironic to find a song about summer waiting on my doorstep.

Simple Kid: #1

I was disturbed when I received this CD through the post. Not by the cover or the content, but by what it said on the label stuck to it.

Various Artists: United Sounds of the HiFi Club

This brilliant compilation showcases a whole music scene that a lot of the other parts hardly touch. American style funk, soul and R&B is not exactly leading edge these days.

Floozy: Untitled

Five nice blokes, four affable tracks. Some springy little guitar riffs and a load of enthusiasm. A goofy, friendly CD with a big SG type guitar in moody black and white on the sleeve.

Spoonfish @ Highwood Hotel

The night started with the metal soundings of "Nerve Engine". Metal Hammer praised this band not to long ago, so I was quite looking forward to the music and how good they were going to be.

Band Profile: The Officers

Matt Southall - Vocals Jamie Baker - Guitar Kieran Wherrett - Guitar Stu Drinkall - Synths Matt Lunn - Drums The Officers' debut show was late last summer in London at the Camden Barfly.

Emmy The Great @ Brudenell Social Club

Emmy is often name-checked as one of the leading lights in the recent popular resurrection of alt-folk music in this country, along with the likes of Laura Marling and Lightspeed Champion, and the charming setting of The Brudenell seems like the perfect place to show off her cosy wares.

Heroes for Sale: Untitled

I will say right at the beginning that this CD gets steadily worse as it goes along. It starts off in the average-to-good category, a mixture of punk-metal but unfortunately peters off, with the last two live tracks not too inspiring to say the least.
