CD Review: Alberta Cross - Taking Control
The second single to be lifted off Alberta Cross' debut album, 'Taking Control' is foot-stamping alt-rock, awash with expansive sound effects and threaded through with Peter Ericson Stakee's luxuriantly hazy vocals.

CD Review: Roe Sham Bo - Serotonin
Apparently Roe Sham Bo have had the luxury of turning down 3 record deals. One listen to their self-released album Serotonin will have you scratching your head and asking "Just who the f*ck were these record companies?" and did they come here in a time machine?

CD Review: The High Wire - Odds And Evens
The new single from London-based trio The High Wire is hand-clap studded guitar-pop. The breezy combination of hand-claps and springy acoustic guitar is balanced out by a touch of darkness to the dreamy vocals and a light veneer of buzzy electric guitar.

CD Review: Test Icicles - Circle, Square, Triangle
I love hearing a song for the first time on the good ol' MTV2 and getting excited about it. It's reliably a tingly feeling that only comes around once every so often and should be embraced while you apprehensively wait for the credits to role to reveal the artist responsible.

CD Review: Alberta Cross - Atx
From their forthcoming debut album, 'Broken Side of Time,' Anglo-Swedish alt-rock outfit Alberta Cross release trippy first single 'Atx.' 'Atx' lays down a solid indie-rock base of scuzzy guitars and jangling drums, laced with experimental riffs and vocals.

Live Review: Buzzcocks
Touts outside and a sold out show. Great omens for what is to come. And it's an early one too which means that the pubs will still be open for the post-gig discussions.

CD Review: Various Artists - A Love Supreme / Jonjo Feather - split single
To paraphrase the press release, apparently "highly acclaimed producer Will Jackson" was at the helm for part one of this double a-side, helping A Love Supreme to their first release proper...

Live Review: Reverend And The Makers
There's an air of anticipation amongst the crowd; The Cockpit is sold out and as this is the closest venue to Sheffield of their July tour dates plenty of people have made the trip up the motorway from Sheffield.

CD Review: Xi - Learning
Xi are bunkered deep down on the dark side. They're Tommy Vance Jedi, in spangled cowls, trailing phosphorescent axes as if the Heavy Meal Ancestors still strode the Earth.

Comparing bands is a funny business. You can say that a band are like the Happy Mondays, and mean it to be a good thing, but find that you are actually putting someone else off.

Live Review: O Fracas + Bromheads Jacket + We Start Fires + The Fold
There always seems to be something rather good going on at The Faversham at the moment. In tonight's case we're treated to a single launch party in aid of those young new wavers O Fracas, the single in question is "Zeroes and Ones".

After the bloated corpse of Britpop (1992 - 1998) had finally gone up to the musical genre in the sky, it left its protagonists in an agonising position.

Well blimey! I walk into Joseph's Well at about 3:20pm after standing in the pissing rain for 20 minutes outside the place (yes, you said you were opening at three!) but at least it gave me chance to sober up slightly seeing as I had been in Carpe Diem for the three previous hours and was somewhat jolly already.

The Hundred Reasons journey is probably a blueprint many bands will not attempt to imitate. It's been one plagued by both in house bad decisions and the most malicious of record label misdemeanour.

CD Review: Senser - How To Do Battle
Rap-rock pioneers Senser have existed - in various incarnations - since the 80's, and their faux American accents, rapped vocals, vague but politically-charged ideology, and industrial-metal-meets-hip-hop backing tracks, feels seriously at odds with the current scene.

Live Review: Jamie Lidell + The Sunshine Underground + José González + This Et Al + James Lavelle + The Young Knives + New Young Pony Club + Stephen Fretwell + King Creosote + The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
Jamie Lidell is an absolute nutter. Appearing as a diamond geezer dressed in silken bathrobe with gold rope strung loosely, provocatively, around his torso, he headbangs and face-pulls like a schizo on strychnine whilst a masked figure with white wires and whiskers coming out its face lurks about setting up cameras and sending disturbingly delayed footage to the screen at the back before propping up a mannequin's dismembered hand (which is, nicely, impaled on a metal pole, just in case you weren't freaked enough) in front of Lidell's mad-scientist decks; then leaves it to turn, slowly, in a revolving, demented circle.
