CD Review: Mother Mother - O My Heart
The title track from Mother Mother's re-released 'O My Heart' album, is a spiky song of angular vocal peaks and awkwardly-shaped riffs that'll needle you into submission.

CD Review: Little Roy - Lithium
After performing the track on Jools Holland in October (along with a wonderful rendition of 'Heart shaped Box') there has been a great deal of anticipation surrounding the release of Little Roy's take on Nirvana favourite 'Lithium' and the single doesn't disappoint.

CD Review: Houston Calls - A Collection Of Short Stories
If I gave you one guess as to what label this lightweight pop-punk identikit effort was released on, even the most inept popular music fan in the world would probably utter the words "Drive-Thru".

Live Review: David Thomas Broughton + Twi the Humble Feather
The Faversham is not my favourite Leeds venue, to put it mildly. I find the layout exasperating; the enormous pillars forever eclipsing your view of the bands, the bland floorboards giving it an odd village-hall type feeling, and the bar so lengthy and omnipresent that, in quieter musical moments, you are often distracted from what you came to see by the perpetual tinkling of ice and clatter of glasses.

Live Review: Micachu + The Invisible
The dumbbell shaped space that is Nation of Shopkeepers, with two bulbous circular seating areas at either end of a long central bar, is not the kind of venue that you'd automatically think would be great for gigs.

CD Review: Little Roy - Battle For Seattle
Cover albums can be really, really good or really, really bad. This collection of ten of Nirvana's best songs recorded in a reggae style are superb.

Live Review: The Somatics + Tom Gourley
Yet another top night at Josephs' Well, to see two bands, or should I say acts because the first is a solo guy with but an acoustic guitar to his name, which is incidentally TOM GOURLEY.

Live Review: Dry the River + Cut Ribbons + Dancing Years
To say I was excited ahead of tonight's gig would be an understatement. Dry the River have produced one of the best albums of the year so far - according to a poll of me held by me recently - so I was desperate to see their live show.

CD Review: The Plight - Winds Of Osiris
'Winds Of Osiris' the debut full-length from Leeds' The Plight, is a definite grower. Initially, you'll struggle to see past frontman Al's vocals, which have all the garbled messiness of hardcore, whilst falling just short on the aggression that usually characterises the genre.

Live Review: The Sunshine Underground + The Playmates + Kubichek! + O Fracas + Harrisons + Gentleman's Pistols + Envelopes + Ironhorse
Maybe it was the prospect of seven hundred ("Seven hundred??!") people squishing like marinaded sardines into the Faversham with such proximity that all sorts of potentially frisky things could happen; maybe it was the atmospheric buzz zipping about visibly like an electric-blue bolt of lightning over an array of extravagantly-varied haircuts; or maybe it was the range of world beers on offer but, whichever way, The Fourth Festival Of Nasty proved to be one stonking, stamping, stage-invading beast of an event with antlers Pan himself would have been proud of pronged firmly up its derrière.
