Live Review: Hawkwind
It all begins at the Irish Centre in Leeds on a Friday evening in February. It's a venue that I've seen Hawkwind in on numerous occasions over the 20 odd years I've lived in Leeds, but tonight we have Hawklords, which as you'll know was Hawkwind's "temporary" name in the late 70s while ownership of the name Hawkwind went through the courts.

I Am Kloot are a curious sight live. Singer/guitarist John Banwell eschews guitar straps in favour of an old beer bottle crate that he uses to prop his leg in order to support his instrument, whilst bassist Pete Jobson spends the entire gig seated, an arrangement that leads to Banwell reassuring the section of the crowd towards the back that he is present no matter what their eyes are telling them.

Rumours a-plenty, stories abound. Prior to tonight's gig, various fora have been discussing Smith's behaviour, where at Stoke, for example, he wanders off stage half way through a song, no-one knows where he's gone, and he appears up on the balcony watching the rest of the band play.

A last-minute change of plan means that I'm reviewing this gig rather than your usual correspondent. And the fact that bus timetables are a rough guide rather than an actual indication of when your bus might arrive mean that by the time I'm inside a packed venue with de-misted spectacles and thawed ears (my, it was cold at that bus stop), Piskie Sits are well into their stride.
