Interview: Izzi Dunn
Izzi Dunn is an artist who has been on more records than you will realise having played cello with the likes of Gorillaz & Roots Manuva appearing live with both artists but she is not just a session musician! Izzi has just release 'Cries & Smiles' an album by an artist already heralded by the likes of Jazzy Jeff and Damon Albarn. Sam Murray emailed Izzi some questions while she was in America to find out about the album, the collaborations and what made Izzi want to get into music.

Band Profile: Termite
A 'disgustingly contagious' four piece jazzy, proggy, spacey blues rock band - New E.P "Growth" out now - termite.bandcamp.com<br /><br />"One of West Yorkshire/Lancashire's most exploratory young bands, Termite's 3rd EP... Growth, is an all too brief voyage into a melting pot of blues, garage rock and early psychedelia" - Counterfeit Magazine<br /><br />"Impressively expansive and explorative music... 'Growth' is a mixture of styles, influences and genres that gel wonderfully to create a cacophony of the familiar and the surprising" - Listen with Monger<br /><br />"An exuberant crescendo of noise...roller coaster...in all senses of the words" - MusicMafia<br /><br />"When the world ends and the horsemen make their descent from heaven to cleanse the earth with fire, plague and pestilence; the last sound we will hear will be the last minute and a half of Kettle Of Fish." - Space Giraffe<br /><br />"Their attempts to blend styles are the work of a band attempting to look forwards rather than back. The textural nature of much of the music on 'Memory Loss' and the propulsive garage rock that ends 'Kettle of Fish' suggest that this is a band with a good few more sides to show us yet." - Echoes and Dust<br /><br />"'[Growth] draws you into both the sounds and the lyrics with a near hypnotic feel... An EP which will add to the collection of any music fan, who appreciates and welcomes the emergence of new and exciting musical talent." - Keep Music Live<br /><br />"From the beginning of the EP 'These Clowns' had me already hooked with the loud drums and the LSD guitar riffing" - WordsForMusic<br /><br />"Several times, the set descends into extended proggy breakdowns with electric double bass and flute thrown in for good measure but they are charismatic and musically capable enough for these Pink Floyd moments to be powerful rather than merely self indulgent" - No-TITLE Magazine

Mentioning the name Ray Lamontagne, one of the more successful and respected of the recent tidal wave of unashamed singer-songwriters to have broken the mainstream, will immediately conjure up notions of heart-felt and beautifully crafted songs in people's minds - and, of course, that raspy, expressive voice which gave his work that extra edge on his striking debut.

Live Review: Add9
The Meters, Conny Price, Jimmy Smith. So much brilliant instrumental Jazz Funk has passed through my ears that I find it hard to be impressed in recent times, but I was intrigued to see why a band that had only been around three years (with many line-up changes I may add) had been getting their performance at Edinburgh Fringe Festival hailed as: "highly energetic" and "powerful and absorbing." I arrived into Leeds Uni's Mine Bar to a quite unsettling atmosphere, with a tense omnipresence about the place.

Live Review: The Mexanines + British Daylight + PaperPlane + Indecisive Crisis + Another Life + The Artists + Inlaze + The Scandal + Traffic Wire + Distorted Sky + Euthemia + Seas-Of-Green + Glassbody
In the middle of April this year, just over thirty bands competed in the heats of the third year of the Centre Stage competition, where bands compete whilst raising gratuitous amounts of cash for a well-deserving cause in Martin House Children's Hospice.

CD Review: Various Artists - NME The Album 2009
The press release that accompanies this two disco compilation gives NME the moniker of "the pioneers of all things cool" before promising us an album that "has its finger on the pulse, so you don't have to!" It couldn't possibly be any clearer that this is an album for people who see a band on the front cover of NME, and then spend the next week enthusing about the greatness of said band, regardless of whether they like them or not.

CD Review: Various Artists - Kerrang! The Album '09
The genius of the annual Kerrang! compilation is that, like the Kerrang!-sponsored Download festival, if you're an avid reader of said magazine, then chances are you're already familiar with every last band on this mammoth forty-two track compilation, even the acts being billed as 'ones to watch out for.' Spanning two CDs, it's conveniently split into mainstream-bothering punk and rock songs on the first CD, and metal and heavy rock on the second.
